The execution of this kick is so nice i must comment twice :) Perfect counter rhythm & follow through focus! The devastating power of the kick comes from hip twist torsion tension, as muscle torque generated into hips multiplies through an axis spin flex/reflex action that increases then releases stored kinetic energy potential. This accruing force of actuated intent is focused through his leg instantly transferring the full centrifugally multiplied kinetic energy load INTO the target on impact.

The only style that teaches you to fight from the long distance. Very effective in the street cause you can deliver a heavy kick to the opponent staying on the safe distance from where he can't punch or kick you.

yes I practice TKD for 3 years already. trust me when I started practicing TKD I do mostly blocks but it doesn't do any good. Its much better if you dodge an attack than to face it head on, believe me. I almost got KO'd because I blocked a body shot and let my head open. less contact = less damage.

High kicks were thought to be impractical when MMA tournaments first started here. Over time, the high roundhouse has become a staple. Now, even wheel kicks are creeping into the sport. 'Flashy' kicks are specialized tools. When and how to use the tools need mastery. MT and boxing is in the forefront because their tools are much easier to wield. As such, more time is spent learning how to use them. TKD tools are formidable when used correctly. Distilling the best of each art is up to you.

I've found that martial arts is like a fighting video game, when both players know combos it a good match, though in a street fight if you know something half the time your opponent will be a "button masher"meaning you can't just do combos, you must pace yourself and watch your opponent for the perfect strike, otherwise the button masher will whoop your ass

I'm an intermediate level Muay Thai fighter, and I'd definitely learn TKD just so I can do those high flying kicks. I can reliably land a wheel kick on my sparring partners (which most of them fight on a professional level), so I'm already about halfway there.

@xxapoloxx Finally someone explained it properly! Thank you! depending on a situation of the martial artist various techniques are put used, but a great Taekwondo martial artists or master can succesfully use a combination of kicks and punches. Great example is when different Martial Arts clash in a ring. p.s.(boxing is a sport not martial art... for those who dont know)

that's good to know. But believe me, TKD is also a way of life for us TKD jins, sparring is just one part of it but the brotherhood that bond us jins together is what's more important than beating each other up.

I also think that kicks are a little predictible unless you´re a master at them, which takes too long and is not useful when throwdowns are allowed. You are totally right, Muay thai and boxing and kickboxing are easier.And I wouldn´t like to see myself trying to close the distance against fast and accurate kickers like the ones in the video. Your comment, Sir, is full of sense

If you truly believe that then you are not watching the video very closely. TKD guard is alot lower the other martial arts. It is usually with one hand at the side, to block side kicks,and the other across the stomach or chest. The reason its lower is because of the time it takes for a kick to travel to the body is shorter then the time it takes for a kick to travel to the head. Also, some kicks require you to drop guard before or during your attack. :)

Taekwondo does have a set of punching technics, the thing is that punching is more for street fighting than this sort of tournament. In a pefectly flat and wide environment like this, your legs have longer reach and more power than your arms with arguably the same speed, there is then little point on trying to lead your combination with punches, they are rather kept for close quarters or suprising your oponent.
@jay2011201211 жыл бұрын
Every line I read of your comment had me nodding in agreement. Can imagine using this as self defence the criminal would not even be phazed. All taekwondo is good for is the pretty aerial demonstrations shown in the movies. Learn mui thai and supplement it with krav maga to survive on the streets. Not pretty dancing or sorry I mean taekwondo

Timing of being is everything, & key to the nature of a timing of movement victory is being virtually timeless in nature. In being centered surely in the motionless of the present moment one is unfettered by thought & reason is completely objective to all being embraced by time so by default all objects occupying times space are completely subjective to the movement of your reasons embrace. In this, one's being is director of events in motion rather than one's motions being directed by events.

Ya Tae Kwondo revolves around turning and using the waist and legs to build momentum into one kick. Personally I think TKD rivals Muay Thai in terms of destructive power. If you pit a TDK master against a Karate Master I'll bet the TDK master would win just basted on the longer ranged, destructive power behind the techniques
@VivecsTDawg12 жыл бұрын
Honestly all martial arts are different, theres no sense bickering about each martial art, i agree taekwondo has become a little bit of a sport but that's not all they teach you, that's just a portion. if youve never taken the martial art then you have no right to bash it because you really have no idea about it, Taekwondo is one of the most popular "Martial Arts" in the world and i think its childish to say its not. And 'Accept' that there are different techniques on how to defend yourself. :)

In Taekwondo sport tournaments there are different rules, wtf don't allow hand strikes to the head and kicking earn the greatest points which is why they tend to attack and defend the the way they do in tournaments which is quite different to Taekwondo Martial Art which has very strong hand, elbow and arm striking.

sure, blocking would be very useful in a style that specializes on quick strikes and counterattacks.Even if they blocked their opponent's attack, chances are the other fight would have noticed open spot on the defenders block. Every block has its weak spots. If your'e blocking your head, chances are you could be hit on the body, which cost you points. if you block your body, chances are again you could be hit on your head and it would cost you point, or your life.

Meh. I'd disagree. Although there is no contest in practicality when it comes to muay thai or krav maga vs Tae Kwon Do. I'd say it can still be effectively used as self defence. Many kicks are similar to muay thai kicks, and those spin kicks do a LOT of damage. I've taken one and although I'm not saying im any kind of an expert, I have certainly taken both muay thai kicks and TKD kicks and damage range is similar. TKD just happens to be less practical because of the flashyness.
