Korean high school athletes (years 7 to 12) train on average 2 hour sessions four times a day, everyday. However, the intensity of the sessions differ according to the schedule of competitions. They will do more fitness training during the winter due to the cold weather, and more sparring in the summer.

Thanks for the clarification. The reason why the taekwondo team doesn't exist at Sung Kyun Kwan University anymore is because their funding went to a different sports team within the school. It's a shame, considering the university only accepted 1 person per weight category for entry every year. Athletes would have more chance of getting into Yong-In or Kyung-Hee uni, but entry into Sung Kyun Kwan was close to a miracle.

Doing a full split takes much conditioning, and being quick on your feet is simply a matter of muscle memory. Apart from that everything will take time and experience. The best advice I can give is: Don't rush to attain something. Enjoy the experience of learning Taekwondo, rather than see it as a means to achieve superficial goals.

Dwight Walls not really. WTF taekwondo is all about kicking and that's no good im street fighting. Even very good fighters fall down a lot in their fights. No head movement,no boxing,no realistic strike blocking,no takedown defense, weak kicks after adding electronic gear. Very very bad art for street fighting IMO

As a practiconer of TKD, I must strongly object with you. Traditionally, in all forms of martial arts, hands were emphasized in practice and application. Legs are important, but if one doesn't develop the hands, one can easily be defeated. I have experience since I practice with my hands leaps and bounds more than most people in WTF and I will tell you, if we do a kickboxing/karate style match, I can easily dominate. A martial artist is to perfect everything: grappling, punching, and kicking

He's not an athlete, he was part of the normal taekwondo group for children. All kids under 18 get their black belt within a year. But you'll see that it's not really a black belt, it's a Poom belt. From the time they get their Poom belt, they'll remain that way until they automatically get their black belt when they turn 18, so it doesn't matter how early they get their Poom belts. By the the time they get their black belts they're already at the right standard.
