I consider Taemin as the top soloist in the music industry. I firmly believe that he is the only artist that is both a vocal and dance monster among other things, I mean from everything I have seen so far, solo artists either sing very well or dance very well but Taemin goes in for the kill in everything he does, call it talent or experience but for me he is and only him, the highnote of blackrose gave me goosebumps the first time I saw him, plus his vocals of his ballads are impressive and very passionate. I'm waiting for reactions to his discography as well. BlackRose is a beautifully strange mix of musical genres, stunning vocals and a very top notch dance with very unique outfits. Black rose is not mainstream at all, one can be creative within the mainstream industry but Taemin is far away from that view and creates, he simply travels on another frequency. it's funny, who in the industry would dare to risk as much as he has done? One of the qualities I certainly admire and the answer is no one.

As a teenager, growing up as a member of SHINee, Taemin was known for his feminine look. It took him a long time to accept the fact that he was known for his looks and that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, a lot of Taemin's songs are about the duality of life and the different sides of someone that makes up who they are, which is sort of the underlying theme of "Black Rose." Taemin spent a long time coming to terms with the different sides of his personality and, believe it or not, he had to work to overcome being an introvert. Before debuting as a solo artist in 2014, Taemin was known for the fact that he hardly ever spoke during interviews and on programs with his SHINee members. He let everyone else do the talking and he was very quiet, shy and kept to himself. Which made a lot of people, who really didn't know him well, misunderstand him -- he felt like people saw him as timid and weak and they didn't see him as the strong, capable man that he was. He really struggled to overcome that stereotype and to change how people viewed him. No one saw how much Taemin was struggling to change people's' perceptions more than the other members of SHINee. And, as one of Taemin's biggest champions, Jonghyun even wrote a song called "Pretty Boy" specifically for Taemin, after having a conversation with him about the fact that he hated that people couldn't see past his pretty appearance. "Pretty Boy" became part of Taemin's solo debut album and it features Kai from EXO -- who is Taemin's best friend, and is often thought of as Taemin's twin because of their similar personalities, dance styles, family background, career paths, etc, as well as the fact that they look a lot alike, especially when they were younger -- as the rapper in the song. "Black Rose" is a perfect example of how Taemin has now embraced what makes him unique and special, which has changed peoples' perspectives and reshaped the entire industry. As you discovered at the beginning of Taemin's "Danger" dance practice video, this dance was choreographed by Ian Eastwood who is a young American choreographer. This was Ian's first Kpop collaboration.Taemin and Ian are similar in a lot of ways -- I am pretty sure that Ian and Taemin are about the same age, they have both been recognized professionally for their talent at a very young age, and Ian and Taemin have very similar dance styles. I saw an interview/conversation with Ian once where he said although Taemin's style is very similar to his, when he was creating the choreography for Taemin, he adapted the dance to highlight Taemin's natural dance-style. Taemin didn't just learn this choreography, he merely perfected it LOL. (It's Ian's signature style to hit every beat of a song in his choreography, even the beats that you might not normally notice in a song. :D) The beginning of the dance practice video was showing Ian and Taemin dancing together at Millennium Studios in Los Angeles, California. Taemin met Ian in California to learn the choreography. However, the dance practice was filmed back in Korea in SM's dance studio. It's the same studio that pretty much all of SM's dance practice videos were filmed in back then. As you know, "Danger" is Taemin's first single off his solo debut album Ace from 2014, so this was Taemin when he was 21 years old. As you have discovered, this is why Taemin is easily considered the BEST dancer in Kpop. As you can see from "Danger," Taemin's nickname is the Korean Michael Jackson for a reason. The concept for "Danger" was supposed to give you that MJ feel. That's why this was his debut single instead of the album's title track "Ace."

I agree! Definitely Taemin’s success opened a lot of doors to other artists, which in itself is super positive and speaks volumes about his greatness. And he was only 21 at that time! What is not positive at all however is how people are copying him constantly nowadays and think it’s completely fine - from his concepts and outfits to literally copying bits of his choreographies… Not looking far away a yesterday’s situation with one of rookie idols copying Criminal and claiming it’s his original choreography… I mean, it’s so disrespectful I honestly have no words. Thank you for always respecting Taemin and his unique work. I really love your reactions :)

in fact taemin was heavily criticized. They said he didn't know how to sing. that he only danced. he was tremendously criticized. but that didn't stop him SM told him that he would improve his singing over time but they did nothing else for him. so taemin won't rest a day until he improves his singing and dancing. onew and jonghyun de SHINee They were his singing teachers. Due to lack of rest, he passed out and had a nose bleed.

Yes, and Taemin damaged his knees, and his growth plate!!! (All dancers injure their feet at sime point.) I hope SM and other agencies take better care of their trainees nowadays, especially the minor-aged ones whose bodies are still growing. Back then, the ageny didn't seen to realize trainees were practicing all hours of the day outside of scheduled practices and lessons, resulting in physical harm. Of course, I'm glad Taemin chased his dream, and is even now realizing greater heights and depths, but I'm sorry that he hurt himself in the process.

A few months ago I had never listened to KPop but the KZbin algorithm bestowed upon me a Taemin MV about 8 months ago now and he snatched my soul. Taemin’s is my ULT/higher power/god/everything and KZbin definitely did something right! I can’t believe his talent, his stage presence, his dancing, his singing, his looks, his gorgeous androgyny, his production values and vision, his MVs, his offstage personality and everything else. Through him I found SHINee and fell in love with those amazing boys. The problem is I now realize I basically started with “the best Kpop has to offer” and have been chasing that next high every since! I’ve found some other great boy groups like ONEUS and A.C.E, E’Last, Stray Kids, ONEWE, and Kingdom. And Jackson Wang’s solo work is the closest to Taemin I’ve found in terms of my taste. (Both 100 Ways and Blow are in my top 5 MVs of all time) And, after much searching, I finally let a girl group (G)I-Dle, into my heart. MAMAMOO is also really great. So, long story short, I love Taemin and get so excited whenever you react to him, and I’m glad that you see how special he is and continue to bring his talent to the world! Thank you! Oh, this The Stage performance of Criminal is one of the best I’ve seen, and if you don’t get blocked I highly recommend it!
