Only Taemin could take a riduculous word like, "rizz", and make it very meaningful. Taemin has quite a bit to say, and his message in the lyrics is scathing to be honest. Despite many being shocked and dismayed by the title and finding it cringe-worthy, I knew Taemin always has a purpose to whatever he does and his lyrics reflect that too. The song has a lesson to share that many miss because they don't bother with the seriousness of those lyrics. Taemin is known for his deep philosophical concepts and multi-layered meanings (often Christian in nature) hidden within his lyrics. What is Taemin's "rizz?" It's the fact that he will rise above the ridiculousness of this world and word to stay true to himself. He employs the two characters, Black (demon ego Taemin [w/pointed ears & eyebrow ridges known as "Abraxas" in "Guilty"] residing in Taemin's head) and White (Taemin as himself w/dancers) to further demonstrate the disparity between evil/bad thoughts and actions (the world) and good or right living ( his Christian [Catholic] worldview) that constantly conflict within Taemin to abandon his faith -- it's like a poison "Venom". In "Guilty", we see this duality storyline, which started in 2016 with "Press Your Number," play out via this same very toxic relationship as an actual dialogue between Abraxas (represented by Taemin wearing the headress) and Taemin who struggles to resist the whispering invasion through his choreo as if possessed. We can decipher this through the way Taemin grabs his own neck through his shirt -- the evil and temptation is coming from within himself. I believe that Taemin uses the ridiculous word "rizz" purposely to demonstrate how emblematic it is of our world today where we hide ourselves behind masks and use fake/made-up words, to give ourselves a false sense of bravado & charisma while exploiting and "holding onto each others' weaknesses" and vengeful desires against anyone with differing opinions via social media. For those participating in this "game" of exposing each other, making false claims, name-calling, and creating malicious rumors, they gain the opportunity to elevate themselves to a false sense of superiority all the while creating emotional "pain, pain, pain" and suffering to others. The "crowd" piles on the victims like a feeding frenzy (just as we see in "Guilty" during the bridge), pushing them out (exposed, shaming them into compliance, threatening their livelihoods & safety, etc.) causing the victims to "fall over (capitulate) easily". What exactly, Taemin asks, "is the gain, gain, gain" to all of this? Meanwhile Taemin is hovering above all that chaos (as if in a Boeing) looking down and watching it all play out; "the reality of words all distorted". The "whispers" (rumors) on the internet "hide the truth." They will "grow" and destroy people's lives. Those who participate in this practice are all the "same, same, same" doing it just for the fun of it because it's all "fabricated games, games, games" to them. Sadly Taemin, and SHINee as a whole, are all to familiar with this cancer. We have lost way too many artists to this "game" (cancerous practice) Taemin wants no part of it. It hits too close to home for him. He concludes with: Yeah, so many words, Dizzy and disordered (Alright). Don’t really care. Everything’s so ridiculous. Yeah, I’m not interested In such a good lie. I’ll only listen closer To my heart Too bad those who play these games, games, games don't stop to think, "what if this happens to me?" As one of the first experimental groups of Kpop, you come to expect their genius with mixing genres together and producing magic. This latest comeback from Taemin didn't disappoint. Between "Guilty" and "The Rizzness", he knocked it out of the park like the legend he is.
