Honestly this seems to be breaking many k-pop stereotypes, that the style of music and dance is so unique to Taemin, and seems to be exploring fluid sexuality. Taemin is not just a singer or dancer, he is a true artiste.

"Taemin's just Taemin" isnt really an eloquent statement. But yes, I at least shall explain to you where exactly I see the fluidity. Taemin is a guy that has for years struggled with at least one aspect of gender expression, which has to do with how he is and was perceived. Since he was little, he's been referred to as feminine, both in terms of looks and mannerisms. This hit a peak in the Sherlock era, where it went as far as people getting confused when he walked into the men's restroom, and he'd have to cough and grunt to clarify his gender. (I don't know when you've become a fan, if you are, and you might of course know about this, but I'll go ahead an mention everything just in case.) Since then, there's been a tendency for hypermasculinity, as to prove that he is, in fact, a man; keeping in mind that the concept of what "a man" is is very specific for Koreans, and many things (though not the same ones as in other societies) can strip you of your masculinity. So he's been working out and portraying a more masculine self in each of his activities. He's started to show more skin, when he started getting a "manlier" figure, and translating this masculinity into both his first and second Korean releases. And even further, there are habits he's been picking up that I've noticed that came along with all these ; he's been standing different on stage, for example, with his hips forward and his abs flexed, kind of like Jonghyun does. He's a delicate guy, and he's super graceful, but his previous choreographies were stronger, more defined, more boyband-like. We all know the differences between boy and girl group choreos- bb's are all about being strong and standing tall and proud, whereas gg choreos are all about being dainty and delicate. This is of course not an absolute statement, as there are plenty girlgroups who've gone for stronger concepts. However, I can't personally recall a boygroup with a choreo quite this delicate so far. And this is where you can see the fluidity. In Move, he's clearly strong and confident, but the way it's performed (and not exactly the choreography itself I would say) doesn't exactly fit in the "masculine" standard. The body waves, the position of the hands... it's just all very dainty. It's not "ARGH, IM A MAN". He's... past that. It's a genderless choreography. If you look at the background dancers, them and Taemin both perform in the exact same way. It's rare to see a male idol having female background dancers that aren't used as decoration, and vice versa. When a girlgroup member does a boygroup choreograpgy, the way they handle their body is usually different, and when a boygroup member does a girlgroup choreography, it's either comedic or changed and masculinized. And it's not because they're incapable, but because these choreographies are constructed to use your body strenght in a specific way. The Move choreo doesnt have that, because it's not made for a specific gender, despite Taemin being a strong male dancer. I don't know if I'm getting my point across, and it's getting really long. I'm just... passionate about this. Taemin is , in my eyes, one of the few idols who can truly pull this off.

I wasn't trying to be eloquent, nor not eloquent, though I typically express myself at a far higher level. It was just a statement. Moving on, I know what you're talking about with his being seen as a girl or feminine, especially during the Lucifer and Sherlock eras because of his extensions. And then, of course, when Ace came out, his "concept" fully matured and shifted, and he was very much not female. However, even Danger had the element that Move does that makes it unique to Taemin while simultaneously obviously not feminine. Even with the background dancers, people were saying the same thing. The girls were dancing is an extremely similar way. Moreover, if you think the female dancers (in Move or Danger) danced *exactly* the same, then I doubt you were looking closely enough. Sure, the choreo overall was the general same, but there were several nuances and little changes to them to make the girls more feminine and Taemin less feminine. Maybe it's just me who noticed that, as a dancer, though. And with this song, for one, the dancers were male. For two, is anything about this dance feminine? If by genderless, you mean neither male nor female, that literally can't quite exist. If by genderless, you mean both male and female, I would ask that you watch it again, and imagine it as a girl. This choreo fits Taemin and his style. Even other men doing this dance is different from Taemin, because he is--as said before--a true artist, who makes all dances his own. But a female doing this choreo would look like a female doing Taemin's/a male's dance. My point here is that, in my view Taemin's way of dancing isn't "exploring sexual fluidity" (though I'm sure you mean gender), it's artistic and expressive. Taemin has a complex personality and character, which is reflected in his way of dancing. He's a dancer. More than being male, than being Korean, he is a dancer. Just because it's not the typical hip-hop influenced dance style that most males use, does not make it not still made for a male. What we see with his choreos is that it's not aggressively masculine. And an absence of aggression does not equal an absence of being male. I can't speak on how Taemin views his gender--I don't know and it's not terribly our business. However, to look at the way he dances and say, because it's not super masculine, it must be gender fluid is flawed logic. Besides, can't we just appreciate art for being art? Why does gender identity have to be brought into something totally unrelated to it?
