I like the faders. Don't have much use for that many rotary encoders. 8 is plenty. I like the look and rounded edges. I like that it's in white (I try to get all of my gear in white. Just like the look) I like the screen that instantly shows you level changes in any knob or fader you use. I like that it has an actual *MIDI* *OUT* It's Arturia so I know the build will be great. I own the Keystep-37 and that thing is powerful and built like a tank. The price of *109.00* is great for a cheap...I mean frugal person like myself. Don't like the pitch and mod touch strips. I prefer an actual mechanical pitch and mod wheel Don't like the fact that there are no transport controls. They should have lowered or raised the faders a little and stuck transport controls on it.

I ordered a Minilab Mk3 a couple days ago. My main motivation was not mentioned in your video - the control of Arturia software. I have a Komplete Kontrol S88 for my studio, which does a great job with Native Instruments, but I want to be able to load an Arturia software synth and tweak the sound parameters without a lot of MIDI mapping. Thanks for your review!

I can't believe the timing on this, I was looking for the first midi keyboard to get like two days ago, and I have done quite a bit of research. And my first pick was the AKAI MPK Mini mk3 and my second was the Arturia Minilab 2. I LOVE how it looks overall and every review said the keys felt nice. I was literally looking up a more detailed review on the Arturia minilab 2 since I didn't like how every review had quite a bit negative to say about the Akai, and I came across this. I FELL IN LOVE FIRST SITE. this keyboard is just, amazing, I'm definitely going to get one of these. Also, your videos are very detailed and helpful, keep up the good work! And let me know if its the right choice to get this as a starting midi keyboard, since I'm quite new to this and I wouldn't want to make the wrong choice since that would be a WHOLE deal. Thank you!

I see that you are engineer at Arturia. Just one observation from me.. I bought keylab61 mk2 and and after month of using it the first knob "Cut off/Pan 1" is not working properly... wth.. Turning to one side and it does whatever it wants, turning back and forward in software.. When playing with keyboard and not touching knobs I see on the screen that some parametres moves in e.g. cut off; resonance, etc... Wt.... It is so sad that I payed nearly 600euros for MIDI keyboard that does what it wants and not what I want. It is such a shame... Now if I want that fixed I need to bring it to the store, then store will send it to arturia service and then it will be serviced, maybe.. and it will took about 2-3 months that I was informed in store that I bought it. I don't know if it's worth it to not have keyboard for 2-3 months..... Just wanted to share. Maybe you will advice something faster?... I hoped premium device for that price...

I read that you can adjust the pad sensitivity in the software suite, not sure how granular that is though without one yet myself. Edit: 7 months later since getting one myself, and the pads are indeed super stiff. There is a way to adjust their response curves inside the Arturia MIDI Control software. There's Linear, Log, and Exponential options for all keys and pads, yet you can't adjust the curves themselves granularly. I find the Log setting makes the pads the most responsive, but they're still stiff and accurate dynamics can be hit or miss. It's almost like they were made for real drum sticks or something other than your fingers. Haven't tried that yet. But really, that's a super minor complaint since everything else about the keyboard is awesome. It has an input for a foot pedal, midi jack, and a ton of other useful control options with shift and multiple profiles too. The knobs are super granular with dial speed adjustability. It's got everything you'd ever need in a portable midi keyboard.

I think this might be my next MIDI keyboard. I sold my previous one because it was tied to a certain DAW, and transport controls worked only in that DAW, which didn't make sense for me. Deep integration with a certain DAW has it's own pros, you get more control on the MIDI keyboard itself, and that helps to not interrupt the creative flow, but I prefer versatility over deep integraion, so I think Arturia reached a good balance there. Also I like the Arturia keybed mechanism - my previous keyboard had a plastic-bending type of keys and that type is just messes with my head. Playing on that type of keys just doesn't feel like pleasurable experience, and I always afraid that plastic will break sooner or later, even if it's durable and there is no complaints about it. As far as I know, Arturia Minilab keys have individual spring for each key, so pressing the key should feel good and I guess it's more reliable than plastic-bending.

i'm glad you pointed out the tap tempo. i need that for doing very portable backpack mini synth setup. Imagine a backpack full of mini synths and samplers. i want to record a loop, but i don't know the tempo, and i want to sample exactly 2 bars using a portable sampler's functionality to set the sample recording time to a specific length. say the sample tempo doesn't match the tempo of the project... this way, i can temporarily change the tempo of the sampler to match the sample i'm about to record, record it at the correct tempo, then set the sampler back, and know that the sample is a 2 bar long sample after i adjust the pitch or time stretch, etc. by the way, i mean portable mini synth setup as in NO computer, no laptop. just using the seq in the mini synths.

I had a hard time picking a midi controller because I was looking for a lot of different things and it turns out this was announced with all of the features I was looking for right when I was getting serious about purchasing one. 5 pin midi out is huge, good arpeggiator (I had a keystep for a while and regrettably sold it) and full ableton integration. Its like they heard my complaining about one controller not doing everything I wanted and made it. Might not be for everyone but wow they really figured me out. But yeah, just pick one and learn it. Thats the key move. Make music.

It's a beautiful piece of gear, but after a few days with the minilab 3, I have quite a few gripes with it. Biggest drawback, in my opinion, are the pads. They are squishy and just not sensitive enough. You need to hit them pretty hard to register a press. There is no "full level" button either, and the only way to change velocity curve is through Arturia's midi control software, no "on the fly" option present. No note repeat either. The second annoying thing is the raised plastic bit either side of the key bed. Why? You have to constantly be aware of it when playing top and bottom keys next to it or You will hit the shell instead of the key. There is no excuse for it - just poor design. No other midi keyboard that I've played has this flaw. Because of the high sides, the minilab 3 key bed feel cramped and uncomfortable to play with both hands. Key feel is good though, and I prefer it to AKAI MPK mini. Also, there are 25 keys available and yet the only "shift+key" function available is midi channel selection - something that could have easily been solved with a menu and the encoder knob. Just seems like a waste of a control option. I do like Arturia software implementation a lot, and pairing the MiniLab 3 with Analog Lab V is magic, so I'm still not sure wether to return it or keep it for use with Arturia's virtual synths.

Great review man. I’m in the market for a controller and I’m stuck between the Akai APC 25 vs Arturia Minilab 3. I was initially looking at akai to switch my workflow a bit and have something to help me arrange my tracks from session views scenes more naturally as compared to the normal way. I will not be using the clips individually tho and it’s just to trigger each scene at a time in arrangement, seems like Arturia can do that for me as well and now I’m contemplating! I do have a question, just like the faders, do the knobs get auto assigned to the instrument of the track you’ve selected as well? Or you need to manually map everything each time for every different instrument in different tracks?

Thanks a lot, Taetro! (: still happy with my MK2, because I’m not playing as much music as I’d like these days, so I’m keeping it. You are the channel who had convinced me to go for the MK2, and i love it ever since. Silly as it may sound, I prefer the metal base, for its durability, especially since I wanted it to be my portable keys. Can buy something more expensive later, if I want the extra port after all. Just wondering if the fader controls the MK3 has could somehow be mapped/applied to some of the knobs that the MK2 has. Does anyone who reads this comment know perhaps? Anyway! It’s good to see that Arturia makes SUCH good quality musical instruments, and is being constantly innovative, like with the MK3, so well done Arturia! As you rightly said in the end though, the “mission” is not to go for perfection, but just play music and have fun, regardless of MK2, MK3, or MK43 in 100 years :P Cheers for everything, my friend. PS: cannot find the Discord “join” link, is it still there?

I think at this point latency is not an issue for most midi controller products, it is standard that you’ll be able to play in real time with no problem. However it’s more to do with your computer/device. If your computer can normally operate at a low enough buffer size, you’re good to go!

I’ve got a new iPad with, of course, GarageBand. Will this work with it or is there a better choice? Seems like Akai might be the better path. What are your thoughts?

Can you replicate chord mode on the mk2 with software? Is it a massive difference to have it integrated on the mk3?

I have a question. Do you think it's dumb if I buy the arturia minilab 3 even if i use logic? Or is there another keyboard that you recommend?
