He doesn’t really take care of them TBh. A leader in kpop groups is the person that helps to keep everyone as 1 unit. To help everyone get along with each other and they also are the one the members go to if there is conflict between members or if there is anything they want to tell the higher ups (SM or whatever company the group is a part of). They also make sure that the members practice well and that they are ready to perform. Basically he makes them do their hw so é.g if the dance instructor gives them a dance he makes sure to double check if they actually practiced and if not he will help. All these other things taeyong does is out of his free will é.g buying the members stuff. However sometimes the company provides with some extra money to him so that if they are put and about they can grab some food

When there's problems or mistakes staff go to leaders first so they can double check with their groups. Take Baekhyun as an example: he's the funny moodmaker and prankster in EXO but was a bit more more subdued and serious in SuperM cause he knew he was chosen leader and had to represent this experimental mixed-and-matched project group. There's sooo many groups where you can literally see how members refer to leaders to answer medias questions.
