do the scots and irish not also speak their own variation of gaelic?

Irish (or Gaelic as the call it), Scots Gaelic and Welsh are 3 separate languages

All Celtic languages are originally derived from Old Welsh (from ac couple millennia ago), so Gaelic languages share some similarities with Modern Welsh (they're very few and far between). Brythonic languages like Cornish and Breton are a lot closer to Welsh because they developed closer to each other geographically. Taffe should do Rownd a Rownd next lol. The accents in north Wales are difficult for me sometimes, and I've been fluent in Welsh since I was 3 XD

It's Welsh the language you're hearing on Pobol Y Cym, A teenage Ioan Gruffudd was in it long before he starred in the fantastic four movies, There used to be a scottish Gaelic soap between 1992 and 1998 called Machair, River City is set in my home city, Glasgow a lot of the cast have a comedy background. Many of them have been alumni of BBC Scotland's comedy unit.

Nice to see that River City got a mention. Machair was great too - innovative for its time. It's a shame that Take The High Road wasn't in the compilation - just current shows I guess.

POBOL Y CWM! I WATCH IT EVERY DAY!!! I was listening to this while sorting through my twitter follows, and as soon as I heard the Pobol y Cwm theme tune, I freaked XD. Pobol y Cwm is pronounced POB-ol UH COOM with a short "oo" sound like in the word "look". It means People of the Valley and it's set in the south Wales valleys just like Fireman Sam is. DJ is the nickname of Dai's son, Richard, because it was 1st thought that his biological father was Dic Ashurst, and DJ's named after him, so DJ stands for Dic Jr. I missed the episode you watched, but this video came out just after a storyline where DJ was falsely accused of sexually assaulting his friend, Sioned (who didn't appear in the clip you watched here), when she was passed out after getting drunk, and it turns out, it was a character called Gwyneth (the woman with the short dark hair who talked to Non in the caffi) who did it and framed DJ for it. Non is the girl with the glasses, and she fancies DJ, so her, DJ and Sioned were working to clear his name once they worked out Gwyneth did it and not him. DJ was worried people still wouldn't like him after Gwyneth was publicly outed by Sioned at a party in the local pub incase people didn't believe him, Non and Sioned. I'm deep in the Pobol y Cwm lore... I'm the saddest 18 year old in Wales XD

You must be the first "taffe" to not recognize the Welsh language, lol. ..."Taffy" is an English slang term, meaning a "Welsh" person. It's similar to using "Yank" to describe an "American". It can be regarded as a pejorative to some however.

Those are a bit more obscure the 1st & 3rd would have to be searched for but true that in Wales more people speak Welsh, re-introduced into schools sort of '90. But fewer Scott's speak Scottish in my experience, but don't say there speaking English. For a small country we have a lot to ague about.

You should react to Waterloo road, idk if it’s a soap opera because I don’t watch many soap operas tbh however it is certainly a drama. It’s a show about a school called Waterloo road set in a town in Manchester called Rochdale, rochadale is one of the most impoverished areas in England and the shows about both the lives of the students and teachers, it’s an alright show I haven’t watched all 10 seasons. You should react to one of the episodes. Edit: Waterloo road has its own KZbin channel with the episodes on so idk if that’s gonna be helpful or if it’s gonna have copy-write issues

Hope you enjoyed watching the soap operas you watched and could understand what they where saying in River City apparently it’s hard for people who aren’t Scottish to understand and being Scottish myself I wouldn’t understand that 😂 please could you react to just Emmerdale if possible it’s about the same level as Coronation street in popularity in the UK personally it’s better I would recommend the bypass crash it’s one of the best scenes and has won awards also there was a helicopter crash a few years ago which is worth watching as well

Oh, just a little bit of trivia for you, but "Taff(y)" is a slang word for a Welsh person, it comes from a corruption of the common Welsh name Dafydd. It's quite similar to "Paddy" for Irish people, and "Jock" for Scottish people, though some that live in the countries do find the terms somewhat offensive. Some people say it actually comes from the name of the river that runs through the centre of the capital city, Cardiff, which is called the River Taff. Sometimes it is just applied to people from Cardiff (people from Swansea were known as "Jacks" and often still are, and people from the North of Wales were called "Gogs" after the Welsh word for North which is Goggledd), but now it's often used for the whole country, especially people from the South. Just thought that was a funny nugget given your username.

Strictly speaking, it's the only one that IS British. The English language is derived from Anglo Saxon (as is German), whereas Welsh is derived from Common Brythonic, a language spoken throughout Great Britain before the Romans arrived, never mind the Saxons. In Welsh, England is Lloegr, believed to mean the lost land, and the English language is Sasnaeg, meaning Saxon.
