taffe316 there are alot of other things that make UK Soaps different from US Soaps. They are more diverse in the sense that they have Black & Indian Actors, it's very Gay Friendly and one of the Actors from Hollyoaks was Duncan James who was in a Group called Blue who did Duets not only with Elton John & Stevie Wonder. Alot of UK Pop Stars become Soap Stars.

Hollyoaks was awesome in around 2006 - 2008. Not so keen on it nowadays though.

The Actress who plays Tracy is on Emmerdale Amy Walsh whose Sister Sally was on the show from 1997-2000 who played A Bully named Lyn Hutchinson. Their Middle Sister Kimberley was part of Girls Aloud who were the most Successful Group to come of reality tv. They had 21 Top Tens, Four Number Ones, and Six Platinum Albums. Cheryl Ann Tweedy (Liam Payne's Girlfriend) from One Direction had Three Number One Albums and an additional Five Number One Singles. Also keep in mind that there's a Grittiness on a UK Soap that we don't see on US Soaps. The Ladies either run or work at Cafes or are Barmaids while the Fellows are Garage Mechanics.

Wow! Emmerdale has really changed! I haven't watched it for years. I remember when it was called Emmerdale Farm and was a soap about farming life. I miss those days. It's just another generic soap now..such a pity.

They had a big plane crash storyline that destroyed the farm and killed off a lot of long-running characters and then they re-tooled the soap, people started having sex with each other and there were no more farm animals.

British soap operas would be better described as live action slice of life dramas, many of them have been going on for years, _EastEnders_ has been around for getting onto 30 years, _Coronation Streets is about 60 years old. The second soap you're watching is _Hollyoaks,_ which is kind of a replacement for an old British soap called _Brookside_ Brookside was an older soap about working class Scousers in Liverpool, Hollyoaks is about richer not-Scousers in Cheshire. Other Britsoaps you might want to watch are Casualty and Holby City, we used to have a good one called _The Bill_ which was a combined soap and police procedural. _Doctors_ is good too. Also _Hollyoaks_ is about 20 years old, _Emmerdale_ is about 40 years old. Our soaps have gone on for a *LONG* time. Also, there are some good Irish soaps. There's one called _Fair City_that hasn't been broadcast by any British broadcaster and _Red Rock_ which is kind of an Irish _Bill_ and has been broadcast on the BBC.

Im from the UK and I love Emmerdale as you can see from my name and the Robron part is a soap opera couple called Aaron and Robert there probably one of the biggest soap couple fandom in the UK Heres my view on the soaps Eastenders is ok It’s set in London Hollyoaks is shit and really modern it’s set in Chester I think or somewhere around there Emmerdale is set in the Yorkshire dales and is best soap in the UK at the moment which is a big deal and there is one more soap that was missed out which is coronation street it was the first ever soap made in the uk so it’s huge

taffe316 I also forgot to say that Eastenders is on bbc at 8pm on a Monday and Thursday and 7.30pm on a Tuesday and Thursday Hollyoaks is shit so I don’t know when it’s on as I don’t watch it I know it starts at 6.30pm on Channel 4 Emmerdale is on every week day Monday to Friday and starts at 7.30pm but on Thursday we get another episode at 8pm so it’s like an hour episode with an half a hour break and that’s when I watch Eastenders as it last half an hour and Emmerdales on ITV same with Coronation street which is on Everyday I think it starts at 8.00pm or 7.30pm some nights it so gets a double episode on a Wednesday I think from 7.30pm and then at 8.30pm

I don't watch eastenders (or any soap, I used to watch coronation street when I lived with my parents but not willingly, the closest thing to a soap that I even got into was waterloo road) but why was even acting like complete assholes to the person who clearly has a drinking problem, being an asshole to addicts doesn't help them. Also why do soaps still mention that they have subtitles when everything has subtitles?

eastenders - depressing , screaming , arguing, very negative , extremely negative show all the time. Hollyoaks , Coronation Street and Emmerdale - Mixed drama between negative and positive emotions in storylines, but no where near as negative and depressing as eastenders 🙄.
