Recent patch changed how campaign works - less CP for kills, more CP for holding bases. Carriers must be released to replenish aircraft. You don't get CP credit for released ships until the repair/restock of aircraft is complete.

@@joestiller4270 IM with you on not liking the new changes. Especially the Release and Repair.... it is forcing you to Repair which can REALLY hurt if you do it at the beginning of a week or if ship is badly damaged. Wouldnt complain about it as much if the enemy didnt have an endless supply of command points.
@devrossik2 жыл бұрын
Note: You can change the rules about when you get command points back for released ships and releasing carriers to get planes replenished. As you are starting a campaign, before you click the Start button, click the Settings button, then turn off "Refund Command Points Post Rest & Repair" and "New Carrier Aircraft Require Release". If you have already started a campaign, it is possible to change these rules by editing the save game file, setting "refundPostRepair" and "carrierWingsRequireRelease" to false.

Taff, I think you need to take your emperor's advice and commission a few more submarines at the moment. You only have two and that's a lot of sea out there. Don't deploy them in wolfpacks, you will cover more sea using them singly. Also, don't waste torpedoes through impulsiveness and impatience. When your submarine was spotted by the enemy spotter plane, it was pointless to continue your attack. You would have been better advised to just dive away and hold onto to your torpedoes to use later. Once again, investing in more submarines would be a good move as they are your most effective means of carrying the fight in the early part of the campaign.

Nice work sinking that carrier! Be aware that the USN has many more, and they will persist in sending out a new carrier each time you sink one. Don't feel bad about not sinking that battleship. In some cases, simply causing heavy damage to the major capital ships in a group will force the whole group to turn back --- nearly as good as sinking those ships.

Great playthrough so far Taff! My only suggestion is that when I play the game, I wait until my ships spot the incoming torpedos before I make any moves, even if I see them myself, just to give the AI a chance. If you dodge as soon as you the player sees them, or if you preemptively dodge because you can intuit you're about to be attacked by a sub, then you're never going to have a risk of being torpedo'd. It's a little unfair imho, the AI struggles enough as it is lol

histrically speaking american damage control was superb with multiple advanced systems on their large ships to aid in firefighting and flooding. plus american crews were trained to handle a variety of situations including massive fires, ammo detonations, flooding, bombs and more. while most historians focused on us carriers shrugging off mortal blows battleships were also capable of this feat as well
@tannermaynard59912 жыл бұрын
As someone else pointed out, you have to release the carriers to replenish the aircraft. Makes them a little less powerful (since two carrier groups are nearly unstoppable). Additionally, you're going to find that only two aircraft will be replaced per day at airfields. Makes losing them a little more impactful.

Take note,Taff.....I`ve found US carriers seem to hang out south or south-east of Rennell Island,so deploy single subs (not wolf-packs) in those areas and have search planes do there too. If you deploy 3 or 4 single subs (not wolf-packs) right near New Hebrides,you`ll catch the enemy coming out of port,before they get a chance to run riot. People may notice that over the last few months,I`ve wrote about not using wolf-packs,as there is at least one,maybe two,occasions in the US campaign, where Taff concentrated on one of his subs evading destroyers,but neglected the other sub,and it was sunk.

When making emergency ship maneuvers, such as when dodging torpedoes, you will have noticed that using the navigation feature produces rather leisurely turns. If you really want a ship to turn sharply, you should break out of any formation or auto-navigation and use the rudder controls. It can produce some chaos, because the ships tend to get out of your control, but you can get the best performance that way.

I just got my IJN carrier. If I have to release it and buy it back every time I lose planes that's going to be a terrible thorn in my side. Bummer.
@bimmerbomber20022 жыл бұрын
It's a decision point that the player has to weigh. As the fighting continues, you lose more and more aircraft, your hangar spaces are finite. As you start losing planes, you need to decide how long do you stay at sea? When do you come in to replenish aircraft? At what point does your carrier become combat-ineffective? Is there a lull in the fighting that you can take to sneak your CV TF back to base to replenish? You don't need to bring your CV back to port to get new planes the moment it takes losses, you can absorb attrition more than that. But it's a consideration that many people had to face in these kinds of wars, and it's an important consideration here too.

@@ditzy_neko3362 It absolutely is, yes :) Carriers can very much be an "I win" button, they make life a lot easier. But most people stop there in terms of strategy. The best carrier players will absolutely know how, where, and when to use these powerful tools. Big ships win fights, 5-head admirals win wars lol
@georgecoventry8441 Жыл бұрын
Buying it back is no problem, because the game returns what you spent on them as soon as they are repaired, so you're basically buying them again with the same money you spent the first time....which means you only really pay for them once. You can, however, use that credit instead to buy different ships...which might be preferable.

As others have stated, the current version of the game does require carriers to be released to get new aircraft. I dislike this rule, because it is not historically accurate (carriers were often replenished by having planes fly in). The usual reason for ships to return to port had to do with low supplies and damage repair, not low aircraft. I think this was just a crude way to increase the difficulty of the campaign. You can change this rule by adjusting the settings when you first start a campaign, which I always do. For an already started campaign, you can edit the campaign save file to set the value of "carrierWingsRequireRelease" to "false".
@jordangames25602 жыл бұрын
It is accurate though. Replenishing aircraft isn’t the challenge but training them is. Zuikaku during coral sea lost most of her air group and could not partake in the battle of Midway.
@devrossik2 жыл бұрын
@@jordangames2560 It is possible that things were different for the Japanese, I don't know. But, on the US side, naval aviators trained independently (and constantly), and were assigned to carriers by need. Air groups were often moved between carriers while they were at sea.
