Pacific halibut season starts tomorrow (1st May) here on the Southern Oregon coast. If the winds drop they're worth a couple of drifts until the skate move in.

They are Mandarin Ducks. I hope they visit you again. Fabulous fishing in Ireland as always 👍
@stoikes2 жыл бұрын
They almost definitely will, there are nearly 80,000 mating pairs in the Uk and heavily populated around Surrey and Hampshire where they were introduced. Have read that they are more frequenting garden ponds as small waters are their preferred habitat

Thought they might be wood ducks, didn't know they were closely related until I googled it.

Eeee thy's bringing sum memories back there.....Sea fished all through Europe on boats particularly wrecks, until covid sort of split our syndicate up, the oily bubbles of rubby dubby poping hit a note with me......On a highlight we wet our first line tonight on a small weir since covid......BIG BLANKETY BLANK.

Great video, thanks Graeme! Some handsome fish caught there. Good to see a seafishing episode. I think Megrim are a species of Sole, and like Ling, very good eating. Nice little update on the Garden, not sure what the Ducks are. Stay safe & well! 🎣🎣👍👍

We often use those plastic squid skirts with a largeish ball or bean sinker inside the head of the skirt and a gang of 3x 4/0 hooks. A whole one of those mackeral would be a good sized bait to put in it and then troll at about 4-7 knots. Large mackeral (about 3 feet long), yellowfin and long-tail tuna, cobia, yellow tail kings, dolphin fish and sometimes small billfish would hit them quite happily. Looks like you had a decent day out. With your 'automatic' watering pipes - we use a similar thing but put a 2 liter drink bottle in the top.

Came to say Mandarin Ducks. Saw I missed the boat by a loooong way. Please hurry back to the bank Graham and continue to fall in the water, tangle your lines and generally get things wrong. It makes me feel so much better…. This Tuesday I got to the lake without my barrow handles. Does that win plonker of the week?
@TAFishing2 жыл бұрын
Haha..that is a new one for me, but I can imagine it was infuriating ...I took a boat out to sea in Florida Keys once,drove 3 miles offshore with the family,put the anchor down and said.."where are the fishing rods ??"...Yes..Captain Clever had left them all back on the dock....such happy memories.

Those were Mandarin wood ducks. They are related to the American Wood duck. But normally found a lot further east. Could be escapees?

Like the others say, they are mandarin ducks. If you have trees near the water, make some nest boxes big enough for them and hang them up the tree about 8-10ft high. Yes, they do nest in boxes that high.

Just started watching you awesome videos cannot stop watching !!!!!! My boat is going in on sunday here in padstow cornwall now one question i have and would be greatfull for advice as the cost between the two as you will know are mega …… braid or mono ? Is braid worth it graham
@TAFishing2 жыл бұрын
I think you may as well stay with mono and save yourself some money. Not really a need down that way for braid I feel. I fished Padstow 50/60 years ago,obviously more fish,but mono still caught.
@fishingpadstowcornwall24332 жыл бұрын
But braid is apparently the new in thing so u think waste of time ?
@geoffsharp77132 жыл бұрын
I use a muppet on top of the bait to hopefully prevent a ling from biting you off so easily...typical wrecking rig tbh
@englishandproud19492 жыл бұрын
The Ducks are Mandarin Ducks they are odd in as much that they nest in trees. Also they mate for life. An introduced species from Asia where they are nearly extinct

Nice video was just wondering if you have ever fished vale farm fisheries for carp if so what do u think and do u have any advice on what to use thanks
@TAFishing2 жыл бұрын
Yes,not fished it recently but generally good,and they used to allow both fly fishing for carp or floating crust/bread..Several films up on our Awesome site,but always check the fishery rules,they can change.

Are they not a pair of Mandarin ducks? They mate for life. Also the female mandarin doesn’t quack but “shrieks” even at the slightest sign of danger.… I’m sure many of us have also experienced this 😂
@scottessery1002 жыл бұрын
what do you do with all the fish?
@TAFishing2 жыл бұрын
They would be filleted and eaten .The Coalfish might be returnable as they don't blow up with the pressure bends from depth like the other species do.
