Population in Niue decreasing...

Depopulation has been a major concern for the tiny island...there are over 20,000 Niueans now living in New Zealand compared to around 1500 people who remain on the rock. (Updated version)

It seems a nice place to settle down, although a quite secluded one. I just wonder what a foreigner can do for a living in such a tiny island. Anyway, if they need to increase population I'll be glad to move to Niue.

Ask the government why is that????...thATS Making people leave...is the government injecting the money ware it is suppose to be why is the people affraid to tell the truth.. How the hell is.niue to move fouthward if the money is not look into how it is spend from the pass government who ran niue ...honestly niue uses will not on if uses are not honest about how a d ware money has gone to build her or bring the people back..niue has rules for the peoples well beings what about checking how the government been spending the money to better niue???? THE GOVERNMENT FROM PAST SHOULD LOOK TO THERE SPENDING IF NIUE IS DECREASING IN PEOPLE..WHY????? NO ROADS..POWER TO THE VILLAGES..SCHOOLS..HOUSING.. WATERS PIPES...etc jobs is there to fix niue but the money need to bring people back what the point if uses go to church to pray if your not honest enough about the abuse of funds given to uses from the new zealand government to build niue than still the people leave why???? Just look good and hard why??? Uses call people like my self plAstic niuean yet uses put your own self down ..people will not come back if there is no jobs to build niue to it rightful state money put to its rightful uses...roads..schools ..housing..waters pipes.powers to the villages...pot holes remove yet these are the import fixtures of niue to bring people back is jobs.

Late to this comment but Niue is not fully independent, it's a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand so Niue doesn't have a seat in the UN

The problem with Niue is there is no sandy Beaches like some Islands it does not attract tourism ,,

That's what makes Niue unique from all the other Pacific islands. The Niue coastline has amazing rock pools and caves to swim in. There's loads of potential to grow tourism.
