There is a lesson here for every "small" actor who wishes that they had contacts: If you have the talent, NOTHING will dim your shine. You will be noticed even if you only have a 5 min role. If you lack talent, but have the connection...you WILL fail even if you´re given major screen-time! From Bhansali, I was expecting at least a language coach involved, but why cast actors who cannot even handle saying two "Khe" in a row. "Khud" aur "Khidmat". For a true Urdu-speaker, it would be effortless (and we don´t put all emphasis on the "khe"). Why oh why would they cast people who spend their days speaking Desi English and clearly struggle even in Hindi? Urdu to door ki baat hai! First it was a total blunder in "Jodha Akbar", in which Akbar himself could not pronounce "Khan". Then it was a visibly stressed Deepika in "Baajirao", who struggled with Urdu. Cast people who are comfortable in the language featured in the story. Someone like Madhuri or Rekha.

@@nice865 He could´ve taken a few actors in Bollywood who speak Urdu effortlessly. Aamir Khan sounds so fluent that you clearly hear him putting in an effort to almost "erase" his Urdu-ness (I think he knows that the target audience cannot connect with Urdu or fully understand it). Add to that the little twinkle in his eyes when he gets sarcastic in Urdu...kamaal! He looks almost sharaarti. I mean..the man could charm anything with the way he speaks and uses his gaze. Intehaai khatarnaak in a good way, LOL! Lara Dutta, swooon! She speaks really well too! (Listen to her small shaayari segment in "Fanaa"). It´s a feast for the ears! She did it so well, down to her body-language and tiny pauses at just the right spots. Urdu lehja is finesse...cannot be faked or "achieved" in a month. Then we have Sushmita Sen! But sadly, her very obvious filler-job is too distracting. But she speaks as a true Hyderabadi, which is what confuses me about Aditi Rao Hydari (she should´ve done it perfectly). Aditi sounds like she speaks something else than Urdu in her daily life. When I listen to Sushmita in "Jeena iss hi ka naam hai", and she tells the story of her dress...she goes up and down in "rhythm" like a true Urdu speaker. It suits her really well, mash´Allah. Her voice is also like made to recite shaayari; a bit deep, a bit teasing almost. She knows the flow, she has the potential. She knows exactly where to emphasise, where to pause and where to stretch...it comes naturally, one can tell. Even when she shares an uncomfortable incident, woh tameez aur thehraao hota hai unn ke lehje mein. Awesomely controlled and awake insaan, yet so genuine and warm. There is no one like Sush in all of India´s showbiz industry! Other names: Rekha can really do it, even though she doesn´t manage good Urdu in her interviews (always confuses the "tha" and "theen"). Madhuri does it well, but needs to lay off the fillers. And finally Shahid Kapoor (when he speaks Urdu, you can hear that he must´ve grown up around genuine Urdu-speakers...it´s unmistakable). Last, but certainly not least...ouff, Rani Mukherji. She would have to practise a lot to get the Urdu right (her Hindi is like...bhaari Hindi), but can you imagine her opposite Aamir Khan? SPARKS fly off the screen! Rani played a tawaif in "Mangal Pandey" and "Saawariya" and NOBODY portrays the body-language, the chewing, the gaze and the "namak" of a tawaif like her. Insaan bass dekhta hi rehta hai ke yeh kya hai, kaise...kaisi adaa hai? And her VOICE is a whole character in itself. Rani is highly underrated and I belive, still under-utilised as a talent. That woman´s eyes alone can set something on fire...yet it doesn´t look "arrogant" like on other actresses whose eyes are famous. Like Aamir, there´s a sharaarat, an intensity and mystery. She looks like she´d look at someone, knowing what she has, yet burst out laughing to make them comfortable. Aik umda hi adaa hai....check the song "Rasiya" in "Mangal". Rani EATS up the screen. Magnetic! Nobody gives Aamir a "takkar" such as her! She can take him on, she can match his intensity. Imagine Rani in "Heera Mandi" opposite Aamir? Sholey aur sailaab, sab kuch aik saath! I think what some people do not understand is that Urdu shaayari cannot be done well even by us who speak Urdu every day. It takes training and reading a lot. Whenever my generation try, believe me, the buzurg of the family stop us. They correct us, because the flow isn´t there. There are minute details in how to utter sentences and how to distinguish small nuances like "Khaamshi" instead of the regular "Khaamooshi". The old Bollywood poets used to do that a lot in singing...changing certain words just slightly to accomodate the song. Aaj kall...I don´t know what they´re doing, absolute craziness.

I would say Alamzeb's character was innocent and it needed to be played the way Sharmin did. It was historically appropriate and her eyes were really expressive. Taha playing Tajdaar was magical and it would spellbind anyone, hence explaining how the innocent Alamzeb often ends up speechless and confused. Splendid youth of the yesteryears brought back to life in colour! ❤

Through out the series i was not able to connect with Alam character. I watched on the day it was released on Netflix and i felt something was off. The character itself was not able to emote anything... the girl has the same smiley face throughout (i dont know how to put it but the constant smiley face of a Joker) so her lips was over shadowing her .
