NCT (Neo Culture Technology) truly are the most unique group in kpop, both in concept, members and musical sound. Their discography is one of the best I've ever heard and you won't regret checking them out. There is a total of 26 members in NCT and 6 subunits (NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, WayV, NCT DoJaeJung, NCT New Team). NCT 127 is just one of those sub-units and they have 9 members. NCT signature sound is how experimental they are and 127 kind of spearheads that avenue. "Ay-Yo" was the best song to start with, in my opinion. You get to see the natural confidence and skill NCT have and hear just how interesting their songs can get. I sincerely hope you check out each unit because all of them bring something different to the table that makes up NCT and you're sure to find something you enjoy from everyone. I recommend: NCT U - "Baggy Jeans" NCT 127 - "Kick It" NCT Dream - "ISTJ" WayV - "Phantom" NCT DJJ - "Perfume" NCT New Team (this is a tentative name as this unit hasn't officially debuted yet) - "Hands Up"

(it is “one two seven” by the way, you guys were right the first time) each NCT unit has their own style but overall the music is quite… wild. lots of sounds. lots of change ups. just a lot going on. but bangersss for sure. Welcome to NCT. There are multuple subunits, but 127 is my favorite. They pretty much pioneered the “noisey,” chanting style that many of the younger groups have tried to make their own. I believe they’re the best at it because they sing, rap, and dance equally well. (There are 9 active members, though one is injured at the moment, and limited in his ability to participate in promotions. There are also 3 non-Koreans: An American, a Japanese, and a Canadian). It’s hard to recommend a song with these guys; you either love them or hate them at first listen. I usually show people the “Kick It” mv first, but sooner or later you’re going to have to check out their Killing Voice, which gives you a sample of singles and b-sides. I think you’ll be impressed.

Everything NCT does is about dreams, dreaming or being in a dream state. Therefore, that is what you see happening in NCT-127's "Ay-Yo" MV, and what you will see being repeated and referenced in all of their MVs across all of their sub-units. And on top of all that, it's often part of SM Entertainment's SM Culture Universe storyline, so it could be connected to all of SM's other groups' MVs and stories, which is why their MVs often have a futuristic, otherworld look and feel to them. NCT -- which stands for Neo (a pop culture term that means new/original) Culture Technology -- currently has 20 members. And the group right now as a whole has 4 sub-units -- NCT-U, NCT-127, NCT-Dream and WayV. (NCT will officially become a 26-member group when NCT's 5th sub-unit the "New Team" debuts.) In the "Ay-Yo" MV there are 9 members -- *Taeyong (leader of all of NCT, main rapper and dancer), Taeil (main vocalist), *Johnny (lead vocalist and sub-rapper), Yuta (lead vocalist), Doyoung (main vocalist), *Jaehyun (main vocalist and sub-rapper), Jungwoo (main vocalist), *Mark (main rapper and dancer) and Haechan (main vocalist). Therefore, their style is meant to be new and original with elements that embrace different cultures and technologies to create their sound. What you are struggling to put into words and categorize is just called NCT-style, they don't really have a traditional music style that you can attach to them. And, switching up the beat and style of the song in the middle of the song is pretty much how the majority of NCT songs are structured, as well as SM Entertainment's songs in general. It's kind of SM's signature style. You will hear that same thing happen in a lot of the songs you listen to from SM. NCT-127 is NCT's second sub-unit, which debuted in July 2016. NCT-127 currently has 9 or 10 members. This group is more of a fixed unit, so the member lineup stays the same most of the time. The 127 in this unit's name stands for the longitude coordinates of Seoul, South Korea, on a map of the world, which means it's 127's job to represent Seoul -- the birthplace of Kpop -- around the world. NCT is one of the most internationally diverse groups in all of Kpop. The members as a whole represent 8 different countries and they speak 7 or 8 different languages. For example, there are 11 native Korean members (*Taeyong, Doyoung, Taeil, Haechan, *Jaehyun, Jeno, Jaemin, Jisung, Jungwoo, and new members Sion and Daeyoung), *Mark is Korean-Canadian, *Johnny is Korean-American (from Chicago), 5 Japanese members (Yuta and new members Riku, Yushi, Ryo and Sakuya), *Ten is Thai, *YangYang is Taiwanese but he grew up in Germany, Hendery is Chinese from Macau (China) and 5 mainland Chinese members (WinWin, Kun, Xiaojun, Renjun and Chenle). However, they all live and work in Korea, so everyone speaks Korean fluently. Plus, many members have attended international schools or lived abroad, so there are several members who are also *fluent in English, on top of speaking 2 or more other languages. NCT is a group that is constantly changing and rearranging its members and sound and we never know quite what to expect from them. With a concept that allows the members to rotate between sub-units, changing, adding and subtracting members depending on the concept and style of the group or song, you should never expect the same thing from them. You are better off always expecting something new, that somehow, also ends up sounding very much like NCT. LOL SM Entertainment is known for having some of the best dancers and singers in the industry. That is just a fact about the type of people SM selects to be a part of its company. You can't be an SM artist without having amazing singing and dance skills. That is why the company has gained the reputation as the vocal powerhouse of the industry, who also happens to have some of the industry's top dancers. SM is an expert at finding and developing the best singers and dancers in Kpop. SM is the company that founded the Kpop industry with the very first Kpop idol group H.O.T. (High-five Of Teenager) back in 1996, and it's now one of the top entertainment companies around the world. The company spares no expense when it comes to their videos, stages or concerts, etc. SM is one of the most innovative and trendsetting companies in Korea. NCT is SM's attempt at taking over the music industry around the world. SM's original goal was to eventually have NCT sub-units representing every major city in every country in the world. For example, they are just about to add a Japanese sub-unit. It has always been SM's plan to have world domination. And to that point, right now NCT-127 is the group that SM is using to try and get their foothold in the U.S. music market with all English versions of song like "Regular" and "Highway to Heaven" and collaborations with American artists such as Jason Derulo, as well as U.S. concert tours and promotional tours with the American media, etc. So, this year is NCT's 7th anniversary, but debut dates are different for any number of members because it all depends on when they were added to the group. And many of the members of NCT actually became recognized by fans even before debut because they were part of SM's pre-debut group project called SMRookies (or the new members who were part of a reality survival show called LASTART), so SM did activities with several of the members before they debuted.
