Hey everyone! I know this video is a little bit longer. Pro tip: Did you know you can speed up KZbin videos? Click on the gear icon in the progress bar that pops up on the video, and change playback speed! I usually go for 1.25 :)

Thanks for the views hiking up Freel's Peak. I did it with work friend in early Sep 1962, parking below Star Lake, camping on the slopes below Freels (on Tahoe side) and then up to the summit where I found a road! that led to the TV microwave tower that transmitted TV shows over the Sierra from California to the East Coast. Older technology in those days. No smoke in those days so views were wonderful.
@Sokx41

Also, no bears in that period. The bears disappeared from the Lake Tahoe region from the late 1940s to the 1970s.

The antennas were still there in 1978 when I first climbed Freel Peak but they've all been removed. New antennas are all on Hawkin's Peak now, several miles south of Freel.

My boss recently did a short hike of the Tahoe Rim and said it was cool. Glad to see that it is actually cool. Thanks for another great trip! By the way, I don't necessarily think 15 minutes is on the long side. Maybe for a gear review, but for a trip video - make it as long as you want!
@AmyRoutt
@AmyRoutt 5 жыл бұрын
It is definitely a nice area. Not as dramatic as many parts of the Sierra, but still cool! And I do kinda agree on the length! Like I said, there was a lot I didn't want to take out! I think I mostly just wanted to share that you can speed up videos. It's kinda changed my YT watching game! hahaha Thank you for watching :)

Hello Amy, thank you for sharing another wonderful video. You are quite a daring young Lady. I was at Loon Lake in Eldorado County west of Lake Tahoe. I had planned on a 5 day outing from Oct. 23rd to Oct 28th. Because of wind gusts of 60mph and temps down to 18 degrees I cut the trip short. Tree branches were falling all around me, too dangerous. I plan to return to that area for a one week outing in early March. All the best of good things for you Dear. Please keep up your great videos. 🤗

Thank you so much! I appreciate your kind comments :) Sounds like you had quite an adventure out there. Definitely don't blame you for cutting it short. Tree branches falling is DEFINITELY scary. It's one of my fears out there, especially when wind starts to pick up.

Gorgeous area! Loved the fact that you basically saw no one, too. This made me miss my longer solo trips. I totally get the desire for miles behind you vs. taking your own pace...the latter option always wins out for me initially until I get that bug to knock out a high mileage day or just to finish the trip. Beer and pasta are perfect motivations! 😜 Thanks for sharing another adventure.
@AmyRoutt
@AmyRoutt 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I usually end up doing more miles that I intend to but it was hard on this trip since it was too cold to get out in the morning, and got too cold to set up around sunset! haha (well, for me at least). But I think it worked out pretty nicely because it didn't matter how far I got. I just did the thing! lol Thanks for watching :)

Definitely no need to worry about getting towed there. Either security didn't have them on their list, or they were broken down and the tow truck was rescuing them. Tons of people (and I) have parked there for weeks and, having notified the security, were fine.

Thank you! The trip was a last minute decision, but MAN that would have been amazing to get a shuttle haha But maybe that wouldn't have worked for me anyway, since I apparently learned I won't do as many miles when it's hard to get up and hard to stay out later in the day
