Sifu, I'm a Master at shaking sword...it shakes every time I come up againist someone bigger and right before I run ! 😋 I didn't say that all my jokes were good. Here's another , Shakespheres family got the name from an ancient ancestor who was in the army. He was so afraid to fight that they called him " Shake spear." I hope this finds you safe and healthy ! Praying for your safety. 🙏

It's interesting you see your approach to the sword grip. I've heard several tai chi masters whom I deeply respect argue that the jian should be gripped firmly with the whole hand if you want to have any striking power. What's your opinion on that? Can you have good striking power if you're only gripping the handle with two fingers?

I am not extreme to one side or the other, and even would say I use both. It depends on your goal of striking and thrusting. If you want to chop through you are going to want all fingers to grab, but if you want to poke straight, tap and slice, or roll the sword you need to loosen up one or two, not remove them. I wouldn't go to the extreme to say that the two fingers are the only "real" grip on the sword because the rest should be engaged to support certain strikes, but still allow flexibility. The middle and ring finger should be firmly grasped at all times as they are the main force of the grip. Lastly, it comes down to timing in the strike, I briefly mention it in the video, but the pinky can be used to grasp when the strike lands to add some snap to the technique so it grips hard at the end of the technique.
