Taiga Electric Snowmobile Drives Underwater

Traditional gas-powered snowmobiles require oxygen to function. This can cause problems at high altitude and if the snowmobile is submerged in water. The Taiga electric snowmobile doesn't require oxygen, this means it can operate in high altitude and even in water.

A 85 mile range is pretty impressive actually, I know sled riders probably don't think so. but I'm thinking a hybrid would be awesome, if they made a 4 wheeler with that range it would be great for hunting

To be honest, i imagine it could be possible with a few extensions, like extra water turbines at the bottom/back somewhere and maybe extra retractable wide skis at front too to help push it on top on water when accelerating.

That was impressive! I would have figured it would have shorted out and become junk after sinking. I’ve watched numerous electric dirt bike videos from KTM and Alta and would be interested in buying one except for the cost. I’d rather buy a tried and true YZ250X for under $8,000 than a $10,000 plus electric dirt bike as I don’t know how long the battery will last and those are not cheap to replace. I love the idea of an electric sled but I have similar concerns like with electric dirt bikes.

i wouldnt be concerned say u get 100 miles a charge and u do 2500 miles a season thats 25 charges and another 5 in the off season most sleds have motor issues at 8000miles or less this battery should last hundreds of cycles just look at the Prius from toyota those lasted years of daily charging, same technology as your drill battery those also last years

@@rbzstsv it’s brand new technology and in a recent Supertrax article they talk about Taiga acknowledging the sleds are currently better for Yellowstone and ski resorts. Electric type powersports vehicles will be the future, whether they are battery or hydrogen fuel cell. I’m sure the range will improve to be comparable to gas powered. Hydrogen is quick fill just like gasoline. Battery technology just keeps improving and will likely get to a “quick fill” status as well. I can’t wait until this technology becomes mainstream. Far less maintenance, no stink cloud exhaust, no $50 gallon oil, no selling sleds at a loss at 3,000 miles because you are taking chances on the engine letting go, no expensive ass Polaris fuel filters, no ups and down with gas prices and more reliability once the technology matures.

the taiga atlas has 180 hp, a top speed of 160 kmh (100 mph), and a 0-60 of 2.9 seconds, it also is not affected by elevation, so it will still make those numbers at 10000 or more feet of elevation. I love internal combustion motors, but the taiga snowmobiles have some impressive performance.

Considering my Dad held two (now just 1) world's record for snowmobiling over water (since 1988) that is a pretty extreme test. Largest body of water ever crossed on a snowmobile (Lake Ontario - 32 miles in 42 mins August 22, 1988) and 100 mile record on Old Welland Canal (recreational waterway) in June 1989. Why not make a wheel kit for front then could use year round. Or maybe a atv/sled hybrid for use year round. That dosent cost a bucket. Or a sled that you sit in with a cabin heat radio like a car for use sun babies who can't stand the -20° plus wind chill days
