@MattLaidlaw been there twice. You said it before I wrote it. Staying in Gatlinburg is a no-go. Tell your friends, find a lodge, bed and breakfast or other unique stays, they'll enjoy it much better. 2. You slayed the Dragon, not conquered. Slayed 😊 3 Not sure if you noticed the scraps, scratches and tire marks on the sharpest curves. That pavement was completed in May. We went in August and it was scarred. 4 You missed the tree of shame just across the road from Killboy. 5 Best camera to have on those roads is a 360. Try one, they're excellent. 6. Good explanation of the contrast between the TOTD and Cherohala. There's not a bad road in that area. Also, it must be said Virginia, West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee have great roads. I've spent a few weeks riding that area. Great video Check out my videos on that area i recently posted up. Peace ✌🏽

Matt, first off, welcome to my neck of the woods. Love my South Eastern county. And you did a spectacular job documenting it. Your videos have truly raised the bar on Motorcycle Vlogging. I have ridden all those roads more times than I can count. And I agree, Gatlinburg was a mistake. I would have recommended Robbinsville or there alike. That's where I stay whenever I head over that direction. I'm in Columbia, SC. So many unbelievable roads, towns and twisty back roads to see. Kinda makes you understand why God gave you eyes. Great Job man. Your videos just keep getting better and better. I've done your neck of the woods. Mulholland, Rock Store, Topanga, PCH. Great riding. So glad you made it here. Appreciate and brag on your videos all the time.

Matt, I’ve seen most of your videos covering your motorcycle trips, and while the West Coast area rides you’ve done are interesting to me (I’m in NC, and until we vacationed in the Sturgis area this summer, I’d never ridden any roads in your videos), this trip to TN/NC is really hitting home for me. We took a week in 2023 and rented a cabin near Robbinsville, NC…rode to Clingman’s Dome, Knoxville, Maryville, Pigeon Forge, The Dragon and The Cherohala Skyway. Seeing you experience the same roads, curves, and views we rode a year hang has been like riding them all over again. I’m glad y’all enjoyed the trip…and yeah, never stay in Gatlinburg. Like EVER.

I'll have to try Wise the next time we are over there. Did ya'll cross the street at Deal's Gap to see the tree of shame? Such a great area, don't slam your buddy too hard for putting you in Gatlinburg as there really isn't any part of that area that doesn't have some pretty massive traffic issues at one time or another. How'd you like the hike up to Clingman's Dome? I did it in my early 60's, had to stop more than once to suck air. Hope you make it back this way again soon.

I wish I would have known you were coming to our side of the country, although you hit some great rides there, we could have probably recommended a few others like moonshine 28 is by far one of the best. But you did some great ones or how they recommend going to Maggie valley. If you ever return you would have really enjoyed Wheels through Time. It's just an amazing place for motorcycle enthusiasts. The top of Fontana Dam on Moonshiners 28 is well worth a visit, as is Tellico Grains in Tellico Plains for a delicious lunch. But as you said, you rode the crown jewel of the east in the Cherohala Skyway. If it had been 70F, you'd ridden it in the opposite direction, and you'd been flying along on your PanAm with the boys, then you just might have proclaimed it the best riding road in the world!

We were in Wise Guys while ya'll were there. Thought it was you. I should've said hi. Every road in this area is epic. Stay in Maggie Valley or Cherokee, Gatlinburg is a mad house all the time.

Another great moto vlog Matt 👍. Switchback mountain riding is the best and one of the main reasons I love living in CO. As you experienced there, traffic can be an issue on the popular spots. Fortunately there are numerous not as popular roads that are just as fun. Fall color rides are about as good as it gets too. ✌️

I’ve ridden in that area 6-7 times (live in upstate New York) but would love to be able to live there full time! A great part of the country….especially if you love to ride! 👊💥

I live in the NE and have done the tail and back of the dragon - lots of hype and I would say its a bucket list ride to say you've done it. Having said that, there are WAY MORE technical and difficult rides in the West compared to anything in the East. Roads in Colorado, the Dakota's, Idaho, Montanta, Wyoming, Utah, Calif have higher elevations, better scenery, and can be much more technical and require a high level of experience . I mean, dont get me wrong, i'm glad you came east to visit us Matt but you have way more options and better rides than the Smokey mountains. Also, did you see any police? There are times when they stricktly enforce the speed limit and you have to be careful not to go too far over the limit.

I'm so glad you folks enjoyed my neck of the woods, sorry about the traffic nearer to G-Burg. I am especially glad you enjoyed the speed limits...Co-worker of mine likes to run the Cherohala at 90ish MPH on his Road Glide. :O The Dragon is a bit more fun once the leaves drop, and you can SEE the next corner instead of guessing. :)

Wish you could have rode the Blue Ridge Parkway. It is amazing on a motorcycle. But you need at least a week or maybe even two to really enjoy it. I guess I am blessed to ride it whenever I want to. :). Glad you guys got out this way to experience it. Safe riding Matt.

Great video. I was down in the Smokey Mtns. the last week of August this year. Very little traffic that week. It was very hot and sunny. Stayed in Gatlinburg at the Gatlinburg Mountain Inn. Not a 5 Star hotel but nice enough. I thought is was a good central location for our day trips. Seems like you missed the Wheels Through Time Museum. They may have been closed during your visit or you just ran out of time. Either way, next trip, you have to see the museum!
