I just finished replacing the dead struts with the $177 set from Amazon. They work perfectly and my wife thinks I'm a genius. Don't hate me for not telling her that I owe it all to you! A couple of thoughts - the electrical connectors were tough to get out in the bright sunlight. Maybe a mention of the lock clips on the receiver. The "bumpers" supplied are much easier to install before bolting the fittings to the car. AND - avoid a few moments of dread when it doesn't work because you forgot to check the on/off switch by the glove box. Thanks again!

Thank you very much! I ordered the aftermarket actuators from Amazon for just about 300 bucks and just installed them. They went on quick and everything works! I used your trick of a stick and a floor jack to hold up the liftgate. :) Thanks for the video my friend!

EXCELENT VIDEO.BROTHER. Thank God I stumbled on this video. My tail gate has been kicking my ass for the last two years. I know the dealership, correction, stealership would have hit me up for $1,500.00 plus minimum. I'm probably going with the OEM. Thank You....

Replacing original electrical struts with after market electrical struts. Useful video. Thanks! FYI, my 2014 RAV4 requires the removal of the entire plastic panel on the door to access the wiring terminals.

@@trackpalmer can u tell us why u missed the electrical cylinders liftgate actuators? What was it about the manual that was bad? Were they too weak to keep the door open or did they fail after 2 year warranty expire? Thanks

Thank you for your instruction, I think I can do it. I ordered the actuators at about the same price for both and before that I was about to make an appointment to the toyota service to have it repair, but I didn't and I am glad. That bill I sure will cost me at least 1k. 😊

Thank you for creating this video. I found it easy to understand and very helpful. I own a 2015 Highlander Limited. So far at 144,000 miles the lift gate struts have not failed. If they do , I will go with the aftermarket strut due to lower cost and 2 year warranty. I doubt Toyota offers 2 year warranty for this part.

2014 Toyota Highlander is known for this problem. The cold makes the problem worse just as it does to car battery. My car is currently at 275k miles
@matthewblack8552
@matthewblack8552 2 жыл бұрын
@@trackpalmer I wonder if the issues being worse in cold weather are related to the lubricant on the gear in the actuator. In cold weather it spins out and is too thick to lubricate. When my liftgate sticks, it's very hard to push down or pull up. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing.
@trackpalmer
@trackpalmer 2 жыл бұрын
@@matthewblack8552 if you have a heat gun you could heat them up and see if the problem still there. Think of the cold weather as a tool to show you when your actuators / struts are going bad. When they are ok they work in all situations

How are these aftermarket actuators holding up? I'm at the point now where my factory ones are failing intermittently and I will need to decide on getting official parts from the local Stealership or try aftermarket. I'm glad those come with 2 year warranty. There are countless listings on eBay and they all look the same, produced in China.
@trackpalmer
@trackpalmer 2 жыл бұрын
They have been on now for a month with no issues. I use them throughout the day 7 days per week to do delivery. My Highlander is a work vehicle so I will use mine more than the average person. If they last me 2 years that would be equivalent to maybe 10 years or more for the average person. I'll see how long they last

Hey Good Video, thank You. We have a 2021 Highlander which does NOT close all the way on one side. The left side is perfect and aligns with the body, the right side needs to close about an extra 1/8 inch. "IS THERE AN ADJUSTMENT " for these electric struts, or is there an adjustment on the door "OR" frame? Thank You !!

Check the part number to see is they match. Open the lift gate then use your hands to push it open as far as possible. Try not to break anything 🫣. The lift gate ever been damaged before?
