I was talking to my dad today about this channel. Main, we need to really start flying out of our comfort zone, and these are just really cool toys that we can rebuild!

@@sometinghuge2291 HEY!!! None of that re-build talk! Sounded like pessimism to me! It's video's like these that will keep us from crashing, and keep improving our skills. I admit to being a snob when it comes to my aircraft, I only build balsa kits, or scratch-build. I have 2 planes that are going on 17 years, and even after flying in rain, they still fly straight and true! Hanging them from the ceiling keeps them out of the way, and they make great ceiling art as well. But hey, You do you. 👍 After seeing 2 of Tail heavy's video's, I'm a subscriber.

OK - I already commented, but I'll comment again - I was at the field yesterday, and there was.... a crosswind, so I burned battery after battery "playing these games". Yes, this might become a new favorite game/trick, just like you. Your video shows both high-wing and low-wing planes doing this - I was flying a mid-wing 48" Extreme Flight balsa/plywood model - the wing-clearance would have made trying this with a high with a lot "safer". But, the plane came home in one piece, and I had a great time in the wind. Thank you! Just practicing "approaches", or "low passes" in this configuration is way safer than trying to land - there are all sorts of ways of busting a plane with that wing-down technique !

Your video is a valuable addition to learning how to fly in less than ideal conditions. Everyone learning how to fly should watch this as soon as they get comfortable with soloing. Learning how to fly on windy days opens up a lot more days to go to the field and enjoy the day. I personally love windy days as long as the gusts aren't so random.

WOW, I needed this! I've been cheating since I started flying. I've been doing slow Coss-Runway landings, Into the wind. ATC would hate me at O'Hare. I'm going to practice this on RealFlight. What a great video. Now I'll look less like a crappy pilot at the field !!! The ONE thing you could have added to this video is arrows pointing in what direction the cross wind was coming from, as I kept staring at the control surfaces. The physics of cross-stick landings makes perfect sense (on the 3rd viewing). You were giving a lot of info pretty fast. When there is a solid and steady wind, I enjoy flying at zero ground-speed, or even moving backwards while keeping straight & level. The comedic value you add is a big plus. TWO THUMBS UP for this video. 👍👍 ❤

Super informative I have been practicing landing on windy days i used to only fly on calm days but they are to far and few in between. And I like to fly at least a couple times a week. It’s definitely getting easier to land on windy and cross wind days with some practice anyways thanks for the video bud. 👍👍

Could we see this again with some illustrations showing what directions which control surfaces you are referring too verses the wind directions use more arrows signs.. But still awesome content as always guys. Please keep up the great work.. if you ever get up here to Canada I would love to meet with and go flying at our field ..😂

I live on the coast and the winds change direction daily. Normally around 2-3 pm. So we have an X runway at the field. It's funny watching everyone pick up their stuff and in unison move over to the other strip while turning 90 degrees without a word behind said by anyone lol.

Let me just say that I have an entirely new respect for the pilots of a couple flights where I recall a very notable lateral motion on first contact...... Seeing this from the outside forces me to appreciate the fact that I'm alive (and surely millions of others) because someone understands what you've just explained here in very simple terms, with examples that cost no lives or even property damage [F remote ID]. Just go search youtube for something like 'crazy airline landings' and you'll find more content that gives a similar appreciation.

something that I discovered over the years, is that RC pilots who fly on smaller fields cope with this better. and those who are used to large fields are not, they actually SUCK to start, fly and land in crosswinds. because the field is large enough to always land against the wind. So you fly in a large field that means you can always land into a headwind, try to practice this as often as you can.

Really appreciate the video guys, but you put out a lot in information really fast. Like drinking from a fire hose. Demonstrating cross-wind take-offs and landings in "slow motion" while narrating the explanation would really help.
@TailHeavyProductions
@TailHeavyProductions Жыл бұрын
Absolutely! The concept with this video was an all-in-one faster paced format for those with more background knowledge (reference our rudder, wind, and tailwheel videos first). In the future, we plan to do individual videos for takeoffs and landings both in a crosswind and not in a crosswind at a slower pace.

@TailHeavyProductions

Great idea! We had a lot of cuts for sure. We did try and show the wind sock in a few shots as well before panning to the plane. Easy rule of thumb is that whatever wing is low (specifically for in flight over runway) and has the raised aileron (works for both on ground and in flight over runway) is the upwind wing. Left wing low and/or left aileron up would be a wind from left to right and vice versa. Hope that helps!
