Another tip: thrifr stores can supply an endless source of zippers. Often times, you can salvage a zipper from a garment for much less than the price of a new zipper. Also, old, worn out sleeping bags, tents, and sports bags can offer long, heavy duty zips. Thanks for a great, REAL money saving vid! SUBSCRIBED!

Rather than needle & thread, I have used staples to prevent zippers from coming apart at the bottom end. Creating a new bottom stop point.

@@nickynuts8013 You can actually buy the proper zip stops from any where that sells continuous Zippering. Even Temu sells them and other types of zip repair kits. Super cheap and much easier to use than any make do objects. Actually I was surprised at how many decent sewing supplies they have, mostly at good prices......

Thank you to the channel's creator. And... A little tip for people who have never done these types of repairs before. I believe she is using opposing colours just so you can see how where the repair is but it's super easy to find perfectly matched thread to almost any colour fabric now. If you use matching coloured thread the repair is almost invisible. Happy repairing.❤

I have a favourite leather handbag with a broken zip. Having taken it to two different repair shops who both said it was irreparable, I've hung on to it, only because I liked it so much. Now I will find it out and, using these great tips, repair it and be able to show it off to the world! 😂 Thank you for taking the time and effort to share this. 😊

One of the things I hate about sewing that I never get the thread in the eye of the needle, or it should be a big needle! It does not even work (for me) with this little metal accessory, these just bend.

For hand sewing, try holding your freshly snipped thread very short in one hand and then place the eye of the needle over it to thread.

People used to take steps to repair their own stuff a lot. I can remember my father having our black and white tv apart on the floor, or watching him adjust the picture with our bathroom mirror, (yes the bathroom cabinet mirrors used to slide right out of the door). As a teenage I knew how to darn my own socks, which served me well in the Army, after I was drafted. We used to work on our own cars, washing machines, just about anything you can think of. We even took our shoes to someone who could FIX THEM, if you can imagine that.

Agree. This was randomly recommended to me. I wasn't even looking for it or had commented on it, but I kept wearing my good puffer jacket (not shiny like a bin bag, and it's red, think Cowboy Bebop Spike if you get the reference haha) with a malfunctioning metal zipper and I actually wore it today (without zipping it up since it was doing the doesn't close thing like that bag) and I'd never thought the issue could be the zipper itself. I said 'well, it's worth trying' and went looking for my small pliers and now I'm almost crying because it worked! Some of the teeth were also a bit wonky but I straightened them up and then tried a couple times and now it's working perfectly! Tailors and such do charge a fortune for things. I even thought about replacing it myself but it was too much work for someone who doesn't have a sewing machine. I can sew well, but it would take too bloody long and I'd get frustrated and give up. Backstitch (the thing this person did with the blue thread) takes ages and you have to eyeball the distance between stitches. Plus, if you're impatient like me, you'll end up with a mess halfway through. And that's not always easy to hide, for instance if your jacket or whatever isn't white or black or another basic colour. I have red thread but it's too bright, so it would stand out like a sore thumb. Sorry about the ramble, but your comment really made me feel like talking as someone in a similar situation. And let this be a learning experience for us all - never throw out good garments with messed up zippers, because we might just be able to fix them! I never throw my things away because I'm poor and was wearing this jacket even with the messed up zipper 😂 but still, I could have decided to throw it away for whatever reason and didn't.

The last tip, where the zipper splits open behind it, is something I have come across many time (especially on tents). I use a pair of slip-joint pliers to squeeze the zipper and reduce the gap without removing the zipper pull from the garment (or tent). It has always worked for me and saves cutting and stitching. It is literally a 10 second fix.

I am just so grateful that this video was posted. I would love to also see handbag strap repairs, like when the folded leather tab separates from where it is stitched into the bag but now a repair means either unstitching the main body of the bag, or sewing the tab back on over the lining inside the bag. What is the best way to handle this for a non-sewer?

@DMGe9k NOT SURE IF YOURE REFERRING DESCRIBING YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES OR LACKADAISICALLY PONTIFICATING OVER MY IMAGINED SITUATION ❓ HOWEVER, IF ITS THE FORMER; I SUGGEST YOU DONT BE SO HARD ON YOURSELF. WHO SAYS YOURE UGLY? THE WORD “UGLY” IS SUCH A GENERALIZED EUPHEMISM; CASE IN POINT: WOULD A SEAL BE CONSIDERED “UGLIER” THAN A BEAVER…….OR A WALRUS❓…….. SO, SUBJECTIVE CONCLUSIONS ARE USUALLY ( BIAS ) BASED ON WHO YOURE ASKING. REMEMBER…. IN PLANET OF THE APES? THE APES THOUGHT THE HUMANS WERE GROTESQUE……. lol AGAIN….. UGLY IS NOT A “RELEVANT”DESCRIPTION WHEN DEALING WITH COMPARISONS. AS FOR YOUR OTHER CONCERN ABOUT BEING IN THE BASEMENT. DONT FEEL DEJECTED ABOUT HANGING OUT IN A BASEMENT ❗️ MANY Billionaires started in a basement:⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️⬇️ Kaplan 1938 1.5 Billion Stanley Kaplan began tutoring immigrant families in the basement of his parents' Brooklyn house. Yankee Candle 1960s 1.75 Bil Michael Kittredge experimented with making candles from melted crayons in his parents basement Virgin Group 1966 4.7 Bil Sixteen-year-old Sir Richard Branson's first business was run out of his co-founder's parents' basement. Martha Stewart 1976 175 million Martha Stewart started a catering business in her Connecticut basement. SoftKey 1986 5.7 Bil Started in Kevin O'Leary's basement in Toronto. ( Shark Tanks Mr. Wonderful!!) AS A SELF TAUGHT JAZZ COMPOSER, SHORT STORY WRITER, AND INVENTOR……. I PERSONALLY SPEND THE MAJORITY OF MY CREATIVE TIME IN MY “BASEMENT “ HOME STUDIO WORKING ON MY DEBUT ALBUM ❗️ AND YES❗️ ITS IN THE BASEMENT OF MY HOME HERE IN ILINOIS WHERE IVE LIVED FOR 55 YEARS ( besides my time in the Navy in which I was stationed in MIRAMAR, Ca. Before flying to Tennessee for AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL SCHOOL ❗️ NOW …… IF THOSE COMMENTS YOU ALLUDED TO WERE YOUR FUTILE ATTEMPT TO DRAG ME FOR NO APPARENT REASON…….. I LEAVE YOU WITH THIS: WHATEVER YOU DO, WHEREVER YOU GO ALWAYS BE KIND❗️ YOU DONT WANT NEGATIVE ENERGY FOLLOWING YOU AROUND … ( that’s foolish and dangerous ) THE WORLD IS MADE UP OF BITTER, BITTER PEOPLE….. GRANTED….. PEOPLE HAVE GOOD REASONS TO BE HATEFUL. BUT….. THE TRICK IS TO RISE ABOVE…. CONQUER FEARS! CLING TO WISDOM ❗️ IVE LEARNED SOMETHING VALUABLE ABOUT THIS EXISTENCE: ITS A RARE GIFT ❗️❗️❗️ THE MORE YOU LIVE INCREASE THE LOVE YOU SHOW… EXPONENTIALLY. SOUNDS CRAZY….. I KNOW ……. BUT IN 68 YEARS ON THIS PLANET…… I UNDERSTAND THE SECRET OF OUR UNIVERSE……. BEING …. A SPIRITUAL PERSON….. WHAT YOU GIVE OUT… COMES BACK TO YOU THIS I KNOW TO BE TRUE GIVE LOVE…… YOU GET LOVE. ESPECIALLY ON THE INTERNET WHERE YOU INTERACT WITH PEOPLE WHO HAVE “ NEVER “ EXPERIENCED REAL LOVE.😢 It may not work…. But I always try to make someone’s day 👀 like our creator ….. Noooo I’m not religious….. JUST SPIRITUAL ❗️ Happy life to you my friend Keep creating…….. 🧵 God bless, RAIN

The red jacket with the black zipper side rip, I think black thread would've been better instead of blue. I do think you're very talented with your work and the way you fix these things. Thanks for all the tips.

Let’s say if you have a favourite or expensive item that you can’t seem to just throw it out, I would apply these methods. From where I am living, the service of having it fix is very expensive. So for many this is very helpful.
