Suggestion. It would be very helpful to make a separate video for garage doors with the needed adapter, and also show how to install a second garage door that also has that yellow button.

Just finished installing IQ3 Pro on my single-door garage. This video was very helpful. My opener is a 1997 LiftMaster Security+ and works perfectly with Tailwind. I bought the J-clamp version and found that the clamp isn't very secure since the "J" form of the sensor doesn't truly align with the "J" rail and with the way the locking screw works. I ended up really REALLY tightening it and it now seems to be holding to the rail. We'll see over time and seasonal temperature swings. I think it's amazing how a 13 minute install video makes everything look super easy but in reality the whole ordeal took over an hour including a bit of trial and error. 100% glad Tailwind is Canadian.

Having had a MyQ with the Bridge for a couple of years, and having had nightmares trying to re-connect it all after changing our wifi, I have decided to ditch myQ once and for all, and change to the Tailwind system. I am looking forward to installing it.

Over the years, I've been through the mill with my garage door. I started out with an Insteon garage door opener kit. That worked well, But then my garage door hardware gave out, and I was forced to install a new lifter. I purchased a Chamberlain model B750T. It came with the MyQ software, which I programmed to integrate with my HomeSeer home automation hub, and my Amazon Alexa installation. But then MyQ decided to discontinue Alexa integration. So I am once again looking for a solution. Hopefully one that's a little longer term. My questions: 1) I have already installed a sensor wire, the one that came with my Insteon set up years ago. Do I need to still install the sensor that comes with the tailwind pack? 2) Does this replace the wall button? How much of the old MyQ/Chamberlain installation is replaced by this setup?
@TailwindGarage2 ай бұрын
if the sensor you already have installed is a simple contact closure sensor that is a closed circuit when the door is closed, and open circuit when the door is open, you can use it with Tailwind as long as you don't connect any other hardware to it. Tailwind does not replace the wall button. All existing controls continue to work. You would keep your existing garage door opener as well as any other hardware you wish to keep. As for what Tailwind "replaces", it doesn't really replace anything. Tailwind will allow you to control your garage door using our hardware and software, which also includes a lot of integrations (local control API included). The full list of integrations can be found on our website here gotailwind.com/pages/what-does-tailwind-work-with

I already have a garage door opener but I want to install this. How long should it take a professional to install it?
@TailwindGarage13 күн бұрын
Typical installation times are in the 45 - 75 minute range for one door. It really depends on how particular the installer is with the wiring and if they have any experience with it. Like with anything in life, experienced installers can do it faster. Additional doors generally go much faster.

I'm still on the fence about what solution to get. I understand the issue with MyQ's lack of integration with home integration platforms. It would be really nice for someone to provide a detailed breakdown /comparison of all viable contenders, functionality and price points for 1-3 openers. Personally, I like the idea of having wireless sensor unit like MyQ provides. Or maybe having a local solution (no cloud) is a deal breaker for someone, which might rule out MyQ for others. Is there a Consumer Report for this category. i.e. Smart Garage solutions

Does this work with a wall mounted garage opener? I have the liftmaster 98022. It is mounted to the side of the garage door (not center mounted on the ceiling like a typical garage opener). Contemplating buying your product this week. Please let me know, thanks!

Yes it does!
@TomB89810 ай бұрын
Since the standard garage door opener already has limiters built in, why not build a unit that works like a regular remote that uses a wifi or matter connection to trigger the remote. Then you wouldn’t need any other hardware or sensors.

This video is great if everything works as planned. However, my installation has run into a snag and getting any kind of support feels impossible. My issues has been received and is being reviewed great, but the question I thought was simple. I am not getting a blue flashing light to get connected via bluetooth. The tool they gave me is not toughing anything when I follow the instructions to reset. When I look in the reset hole all I see is a metal board. Nothing provides resistance anywhere when the tool is inserted. I am stuck, and no one helps. 🤔

Can this device be installed to the internet with cable rather than WiFi?
@TailwindGarage9 ай бұрын
The Tailwind controller is connected by WiFi. It does not have an ethernet port.
@r6u356une56ney9 ай бұрын
@@TailwindGarage A terrible design choice made by far too many device manufacturers. Wired Ethernet should always be an option for devices that are not and do not need to be portable.
@TailwindGarage9 ай бұрын
@@r6u356une56ney we conducted surveys during the design phase and asked if they would like an Ethernet port. Lots of yes answers. Then we asked if they currently had an Ethernet cable that ran to their garage and if not, would they be willing to install one? Most answers to that were No, but still some yes. Then we asked if they would be willing to pay the roughly $5 to $7 extra it would cost to add the Ethernet option (we didn’t want to make 2 different models - so it was WiFi + Ethernet or just WiFi). When we asked that question all answers came back as “No”, so the Ethernet port was pulled from the design. All of that said, Tailwind is doing very well and growing. We recognize there are applications and customers that would benefit from having an Ethernet port. There might be something on the roadmap to address that segment of the market.

What isn't shown here ... a multi-door installation, which most people will have, will need wires running along ALL of your doors J rails for the sensors (like indicated in the video)... plus another set of wires for each connection to the single multi-channel controller unit. If you have a 2 door garage, this means the wire runs will be very long, not to mention a 3 door garage. (In this case, you could put the controller on the middle opener to reduce the length of the wire runs from the other doors)
@TailwindGarage Жыл бұрын
Thank you. Most of our customers actually have 1 garage door based on ordering patterns, but you are correct - we didn't show a multi-door installation as we tried to keep the video as short as possible while still hitting the important points. We do mention that additional door kits are required for multiple doors in the video, and further guidance is provided in the user manual that ships with the product. Tailwind additional door kits come with almost 33 feet of wire to accommodate high ceilings, etc. We try to make sure you have enough for almost any installation.

I have tailwind on two doors. Yes it is a lot of wire but it wasn't a big deal to run it along the rails with the provided clips and have a neat install. I do find that the tailwind does always detect when I arrive home about 10 percent of the time by GPS but that is a separate issue.

Ok, so My opener is Chamberlain (requiring the adapter) but you never mention the adapter or where to mount it. And the adapter has what appears to be hardware similar to an auto key fob. Do we hang it from somewhere on the opener? Not enough info Scott. I'll be installing this tomorrow. At some time while checking out this device, I remember a short tutorial about the automobile sensing and that some autos will need the extra device for that. How do I determine if my auto needs it. I don't have one at present. My IFTTT stuff seems to "know where my iPhone is"m so I'm hoping your bluetooth will recognize mine. I never drive without my iPhone. Neither does my wife.
@TailwindGarage Жыл бұрын
Hi Hal. Thank you for choosing Tailwind! You can hang the adaptor or zip tie it to the hanger brackets that hold up your opener. Some customers even just let it hang loose. Bottom line is you can mount it however you wish. If you look at our vehicle sensor product page you will see an explanation about what it does and if you need one for your use case. The vehicle sensor setup video is also a suggested video at the end of this installation video.
