I have listened to some of your lectures before. They are excellent. And I want to learn more! Unfortunately, your lectures are not in a language I can understand. Urdu is your main language, but your reach with these videos is global. I would recommend in fact, that you give lectures in English, which you speak so well. That would be of great benefit for all intellectuals in the world.

Such clarity is v rare among scholars. I’m doing Phd from Europe n my theoretical framework is based on post modernism n post structuralism. I’m indebted to prof. Taimour to offer the other view point as well which most people now a days don’t talk about. I regard his videos as an asset. Bravo 👍

An excellent summary! But perhaps there could be another series that also features what post-structuralism influenced philosophers and writers have contributed in a “constructive” way as well….Bergson’s process philosophy and Edward Said’s Orientalism just to name a few

Best criticism on postmodernism. Absurdism was created by early existentialist philosophers to encounter an existential crisis and question of a meaningless life. And that Absurdism created this postmodernism bullshit. But sir, if we reject this Absurdism how do we solve the most important question of a meaningless life? And how do we create our purpose of life if we believe in objectivity and enlightenment, which is responsible for meaninglessness?

Seems Taimur bhai reads only negative radical marxist interpretations of poststructuralism. It would be best if he would read literature on poststructuralism outside of his comfort zone of like-minded radical marxists. The lecture seems based on a cherry picked picture of poststructuralism. Taimur seems to erect 'straw man' version of poststructuralism only to make it easy for him to attack it. That is a self-serving approach to intellectual debate which does not, in my humbel opinion, suite someone of Taimur's stature.
@shaistamominstudio2424 жыл бұрын

@shoaibakram1248 Жыл бұрын
True. This video is peak example of strawman fallacy. Taimur rehman relates unrelated topics. Forexample , he deems postmodernism and writings of nietzche to be fascist just because the nazi party was inspired by it. Its like saying Islam is a religion of terrorism just because a dude named osama bin laden got inspired by Islam and terrorized the world.

If we study post modernism in depth so we will come across with a link between Iqabal, Foucault and post modernism. post modernism is not nihilism it is not Capitalism. Basically reality, values and meanings are explained by post modernism.

Thanks . Postmodernism seems to strip the universe of its universality . True , its assertion of "little narratives" contains within itself an appeal to empathetically pay heed to what was so far unheard . But its infinite deconstruction of the construct seemingly tends to make an unsolved conundrum of humanity at large .

The problem with the dialectics adopted in this address seems to be that Taimur assums as if Derrida, Foucault and others in the 1970s started postructuralism and it is still standing where it was at that time. He seems to reduce the diversity of this movement only to justify his stance that there is a clash between between poststructuralism and marxism (i.e. his favourite brand of marxism). In fact, this is NOT true. Taimur bhai does't talk of 'critical' postructuralists who consider themselves as neo-marxists. He claims 'everything is subjective for postructuralists' which, to put it mildly, is pure nonsense. We may ask Taimur bhai how is it possible for MANY poststructuralists to fight for civil liberty and social justice if they believed that your subjective 'truth' is as much valid as mine. How can there be a 'breed' of critical poststructuralists if the only reality that they subscribed to was individual 'subjective' reality, as Taimur bhai says. The respectable lecturer and his pupils might benefit if Taimur consults literature outside of his favourite radical marxist readings that seem to establish an unresolvable conflict between marxism and postructuralism. That is not factual. Second, he might want to develop his understanding of the differences and similarities between postructuralism and postmodernism--two terms that he seems to equate in a very unproblematic and nonchalant manner (wtih apology from our dear Taimur bhai).
@ibidibi5 жыл бұрын
the point still stands. if you're going to deem marxism as "radical" then please leave the door to the left wing is right there. any ideology that wan't to deem it's self as left yet at the same time try to reform the current left is a centerist ideal till it actually manages to gain dominance, which sadly within true academic circles of reasoning it can never establish as it trys to reject the fundamentsals of what it's trying to stand upon and hence a self contradition.

I am disappointed Taimur, I expected a much better criticism! ...And that paper by Alan mentions the 'Dogma of POST-enlightenment' instead of 'Enlightenment', it's worth mentioning because it defines the character of post-modernism in the philo-scientific paradigm, and along with other(s) I didn't expected you to be manipulative Dr. Rahman. I invite you to dig a bit deeper into postmodernism and I must mention that I am not at all a postmodernist.
