I can see Guilliman slowly but surely being broken by The Imperium's never ending failures and perhaps slowly becoming more like a dictator which is why he needs to see The Lion more than the other way round. He needs a spark of hope and to know he's not alone

I dont think Gman, in his current position can dismantle the Ecclesiarchy as it is. He could go to war with them sure, but it would severliy weaken the imperium. But I don't think that is what Gmas role should be. He is the one holding everything together. Its the Lion that is leading that charge, and the best part of it all, is he doesn't have to declare war on the ECC. He is doing what his father always wanted the primarchs to do, to set a standard, to embody what it means to the the best of the best, and have humanity follow that example. The Lion has been going, world to world, not to claim kingship; but to show the people what they COULD be. Its the people who are then looking around at these fat, lazy, religious bastards and saying "We do all the fighting and dying, and that dick does nothing while demanding everything?". Low and behold, the Lion comes back a few months later and those lazy bastards have been deposed/killed/eliminated. Leading by example is the way forward.

Remember the example of their god, the Emperor himself: governing with absolute power, living in extravagance the most hedonistic kings of old could only dream of, heading a government that enslaves and murders its own citizens. A government whose legal system presumes guilt and summarily dispenses punishment. Publishing the likes of the Magna Carta would almost certainly result in your quick execution. That was while the Emperor was still alive and calling it “enlightenment” in Imperial propaganda. It could hardly get better 2,000 years after his ascension to godhood. That Ecclesiarch is exactly what I’d expect the Imperium to produce.

I think that its stupid simplification. Lets be fair, a person who becomes The Ecclesiarch need to be exceptional. He need to be genius in politics at least, and most likely be absurdly charismatic. Its not like he will exhibit such weak behavior as we were shown.

I never put too much stock into modern writers trying to write religious characters. They have little understanding of the type of person who rises to these positions, so they just make them into base hypocrites over and over again.

Such characters are not exactly rare in the real world. All you need do is look. We know who rises to such positions through simple observation There are exceptions, of course.

As a big Star Wars Expanded Universe fan... I get it. The continuity I loved died because some lazy and woke film makers basically saw an opportunity to promote their crazy ideology. Hell, Kathleen Kennedy basically inserted actresses who looked just like a younger her to star in the lead role in all her movies. Then Rian Johnson made a whole character after a girl he crushed on in High School, not joking, he admitted this as Rose's inspiration. This isn't just wokeness... it's several egotistical people with far too much power making it all about themselves, then calling everyone else bigoted names when they point out how bad it was.
