I built a Black Dragon army for a buddy. Used Toothpicks for bone claws, the wood grain worked good under the paint to make it more organic. Green stuff for molding forearm sheaths , and tyrinid bits for the horns on the helmets.

The Ecclisiarchy is full of greed, self interest, factionalism and outright materialism. There was a 40k book in the Guard series, a corrupt Ecclisisrach had taken over a primitive human society, exploiting it's people and resources! Thing of it was, it was a recriuting ground for band of Tzeentch worshipping Chaos Marines! Four Chaos Marines returned to their recruiting ground, and led a successful uprising. Of course, as soon as Chaos was revealed, a massive Guard prescence was sent to this world! The Ecclisiarch got his cumuppance!

The Emperor always had plans within plans - the Dark Angels is his trump card against the mechanicus - they are not reliant on Mars for their equipment - have minimal tech marines in their ranks being the first legion outfitted by Terran weapon smiths. In my estimation, the Mechanicus has always seen itself as an independant organisation. The Imperium has had to face off against the Mechanicum 7 times! (Including the incident on Armaggedon between Chaplain Grimaldus and the Mechanicum!) It is also the case of the Mechanicum has its own religion. The Mechanicus has always looked down on the institutions of the Imperium and the ordinary people of the Imperium as motes of dust! But, the Mechanicus needs flesh to keep going! However, certain tech built on Terra before the Crusade was kept away from the servants of the Mechanicum! Some of which is still in the possession of the Dark Angels! Point in case, the Mechanicum's envy of the Salamanders and a certain ship in the posseession of the Salamanders! The Mechanicus is necessary, but must be closely watched by all levels of the Imperium!

This book was a genuine surprise for me. A lot of different stuffs are thrown in together that lead you from one surprise to another. Albeit, the ending leaves some to be desired but a good book, regardless. Better than my last read, Leviathan. lol.

I always assumed that Horus saying “M… Mal …al” was actually his trying to say his dead brother’s name rather than pleading to Malcador. Showing that both Horus would not yield or back down. And that he truly loved his brothers and wanted to do what was right. Sort of a foreshadowing of his refusal to back down or yield during the Heresy. Let alone why he betrayed the Emperor in the first place. Also, I love how Alpharius of all Primarchs was completely put off by what Malcador did. As it even to him, this was crossing a line.

I dont think Gman, in his current position can dismantle the Ecclesiarchy as it is. He could go to war with them sure, but it would severliy weaken the imperium. But I don't think that is what Gmas role should be. He is the one holding everything together. Its the Lion that is leading that charge, and the best part of it all, is he doesn't have to declare war on the ECC. He is doing what his father always wanted the primarchs to do, to set a standard, to embody what it means to the the best of the best, and have humanity follow that example. The Lion has been going, world to world, not to claim kingship; but to show the people what they COULD be. Its the people who are then looking around at these fat, lazy, religious bastards and saying "We do all the fighting and dying, and that dick does nothing while demanding everything?". Low and behold, the Lion comes back a few months later and those lazy bastards have been deposed/killed/eliminated. Leading by example is the way forward.

I never put too much stock into modern writers trying to write religious characters. They have little understanding of the type of person who rises to these positions, so they just make them into base hypocrites over and over again.
