You have such cool arcade stuff. I’m definitely jealous. I only really collect console games. I haven’t delved into the arcade collecting world (yet). We do have a really nice arcade here in Chicago land called the galloping ghost.

Thanks for the video Luke. Wardner no mori is one of my favourite arcade games growing up. I spent so much money playing it. I managed to beat it once. Like you hinted at, if you die, it is usually your own fault. The game makes you want to keep trying to beat it. Great memories.

Aww Yeah!! This is one of my absolute favourites! I used to go to the West end of London with my best friend as a kid in the late 80's, where Wardner could be found in one of the cinemas. Years later, managed to find the p.c.b. ^_^ ..and it recently came out of one of those Evercade cart's recently. :D

One of my favourite games. I added the PCB to the collection around 20 years ago. The final maze level is full of lots of cheap deaths, unfortunately. For those who want to add the game to the collection but don’t want to fork out for the PCB, you can buy it on one of the Toaplan cartridges for Evercade.

I like this tough little platformer on the Sega Genesis. They did a great job with the port.

I remember seeing this one in arcades! I had the genesis version at one point I might have to find a new copy though. a fun little fantasy platformer I can almost beat it on genesis but the last level always trips me up. but definitely one of my favorites. not sure that's the first time I've heard the protagonist compared to south park, so maybe you're onto something haha! 13:57 oh that pickup in level 3 is a flute that summons a phoenix and they'll skip you ahead in the level if you grab on!

I'll have to give this a try on Sega Genesis, kind of reminds me of Ghosts and Goblins but a bit more forgiving

for sure. If you give it a go and play it the way it wants you will get through the game will little trouble. hope you can try it out sometime soon!

Random side note: I don't know if it's just me, but over the years a lot of these Zilog CPU's have been failing on me. Are you experiencing something like this too? And sadly they're getting harder to get here in EU. Anyway, awesome stuff as always. :)

I'm sure most of the Zilog-based systems are perfectly emulated in MiSTer, honestly. Unsure why one would want to deal with real hardware when FPGA reproductions work just as well.

Yes, the Z80's do burn out on these old boards and really depends on how much they were used. The good/bad news is that the Z80 was still produced until 2 months ago but the bad news is its no longer being produced.... The fake ones are popping up left and right so you have to be careful if you find one as well but I totally agree with you.

@@Code7Unltd The Mister, MAME, and Emulation all offer great options if you just want to play the games but original hardware offers several benefits besides that. One of the biggest ones is that the old pcb's holds monetary value and even in broken states can be resold. Keeping the original boards going means a reduction in e-waste and some people like myself, like to try to revive these old dusty treasures. Other reasons similar to collecting records, cars, or owning anything tangible is that its physical. There are still hundreds of arcade games that have never been dumped not to mention the different variants. Some games like Operation Tiger for example still arent working properly through emulation either so having the actual pcb is the only way to play it. Up until this year, although only a small contribution, I released the roms for Operation Tiger Second Mission which had only been whispered to exist until then. All in all there are still quite a good number of reasons to have the original hardware, it just depends on what you want to use it for. Some groups prefer physical, others prefer digital. Either way you go, playing the games is up to the individual. As long as you have fun, any way you choose to play though is good enough.

I used play this in an arcade called The Buzz in Limerick 30 odd years ago. I could usually get to the second boss but that'd end me. It's much easier nowadays when you can go look at a playthrough see how it should be done.
