I prefer the Atari / Tengen version of Tetris over the Nintendo released version, it's quite common on those 60-in-1 bootleg Famicom carts from early 90's. Music is more up beat and controls better in my opinion.

That ingame music seems to be similar to one of the tunes used in the unlicensed Tengen version of Tetris on the NES/FamiCom. Also I'm still helplessly hoping for Smell o-vision because I'd really quite enjoy having a whiff of flux smoke as you work on these boards. As well as the very rare instances of creepy crawly crud and gunk odors 😁
@Code7Unltd

It's almost as if Tengen's NES game was just a home-version of the arcade game. Superior to Nintendo's offering, however.

It was really wild and caught me off guard, I thought to myself, what kind of music is this? Lol. That explains where it might have come from. Being from Southeast Asia a majority of the cartridges for the FamiCom one could buy here at the time were either unlicensed stuff, illegal Taiwanese Pirated copies or seemingly legit ones, you can tell because legit copies come in their boxes and have a manual with mostly Japanese text. So it was only natural for us to have played the unlicensed Tengen version of Tetris instead of the official Nintendo version. Also it is ABSOLUTELY rare to find anyone with an NES back then as FamiClones were what was commonly sold here. If you had an NES it meant you had U.S. expat relatives.

Luke! Excellent video as always :) Just wanted to share that I've been trying to pick up some cheap PCBs to start practicing repairs because of some inspiration of watching you do so many over the years. I've been doing some Raspberry Pi GPIO tinkering as well, so if you have any advice for beginners I would very much like to hear whatcha got haha, thanks for the upload! 😄
@lukemorse1
@lukemorse1 5 күн бұрын
Really appreciate that there nfang as usual! Thats cool to see you are getting into pcb repair. I would recommend finding some common boards that have a lot of repair information on the net or ones that are mostly TTL chips as they are easier to work on compared to later 90's boards that have a lot of custom IC's. Whatever board you decide on, just give it your best shot and see if you can fix it. If you cant, put it up for sale stating that it isnt working and the things you tried to do to fix it and Im sure someone (like me) will come along and try to repair it. Experience is experience. As for the Raspberry Pi there is quite a lot of information as to how to program it and use it on the net so that is also a great way to go! Nevertheless, good luck with the repairs and dont worry about making mistakes with the boards, you learn from that as well!

How about the board itself, if say the cable connections suddenly come loose while handling it and it's still powered on?
@lukemorse1
@lukemorse1 5 күн бұрын
Hey Cahos. Good question there. Generally there is no problem unless you are wearing some kind of conductive jewelry or pulling on the board itself. You also have to be aware of what the board is setting on for example a rubber, wood, or plastic support and make sure it isnt on something metal. The more comfortable you get with these boards you will know what you can/cant do with them. As you mentioned below, sometimes the harness can come loose if you arent careful but generally the Jamma harnesses when disconnected will just cause the board to stop working. If the ends of your cables on the edge connector arent covered or too long, those can bridge together and short out on each other. To stay on the safe side, you can always keep the board on a non-conductive surface and test it without moving it to avoid any potential disasters😁 hope that helps out
