We like to do lavender and then put our soft luffa sponges inside the mold. Slice the bar and you have a nice exfoliating bar. We're growing these wonderful natural sponges commercially, and they're so different than what we find imported in the stores.

Yes, you can see them at www.luffaranch.com. We are sold out for the season. Harvest will be Sept/Oct. Drop us your e-mail on the website and we'll send out an announcement when the harvest is available for sale. Or, send us a direct message at luffaranch@yahoo.com

Such a beautiful video and beautiful soap. I don't have Palm oil can I replace it with Grapeseed oil? Please reply.
@irenelinney297210 жыл бұрын
You used palm oil In your soap. What can I replace palm oil with? please reply
@petalsbathboutique10 жыл бұрын
I would try Crisco. It's an inexpensive alternative that makes a nice hard white bar of soap. If you're going to replace an oil I would recommend running your recipe through a soap calculator to get the new lye and water amounts. Use a 5% lye discount.@pages/Lye-Calculator.aspx
@petalsbathboutique10 жыл бұрын
Grapeseed oil is more of a superfatting oil. The palm oil is to make a hard bar of soap, grapeseed is going to make a softer bar.
@irenelinney297210 жыл бұрын
what can I replace the palm oil with? what type of oil and how much? Same amount as palm oil?
@petalsbathboutique10 жыл бұрын
Irene Linney I would try either Crisco or Lard OR you could just increase the Olive Oil & Coconut Oil each at half of the amount of Palm. Just increasing the amount of Olive could work too. Your bars may take longer to firm up, but in the end you'll still have a good hard bar of soap. Make sure to run the recipe through a lye calculator because replacing oils will often change the amount of lye that you're going to use.

Do you recommend using tools that are separate from what you would prepare food with? Just out of curiosity! I'm hooked on this soap videos!

***** It's generally recommended that you do. Particularly for the lye/water mixture. It doesn't have to be anything expensive. Most of my mixing items came from the Dollar Store. Everything was $1. Thanks for watching!!

Hi I'm back! So I just ordered all of my soap making supplies and I was wondering... do you think the scent for my lavender soap won't be as good if I JUST use lavender? I ordered a bunch of essential oils (lemon, lilac, mint, rose, etc.), but none that you mentioned for this recipe except for lavender. Please help! Thank you. I never get tired of this video btw.
@petalsbathboutique10 жыл бұрын
Aw, thanks. I'm glad it's helpful. Plain Lavender scented soap is just fine if you like that scent. You can even add the Lemon to it because Lavender & Lemon go together very nicely. Do you have any Patchouli? Just a tad bit of that would help ground the citrus. If you don't, it should still be okay though.

How do you cut it? I make similar soap and after cutting the form is not similar.
@petalsbathboutique10 жыл бұрын
Virág Bódis This was a shallow loaf, so what you see here is pretty much what the end result looked like. I measured the bars at 2.5 inches apart and sliced. That's it. The cut pics are at the end of this video.

I tried to make the same soap, but mine is totally different than yours, what am I doing wrong?? The texture has to be thin o thick maybe?? Thanks
@nxdiuh8 жыл бұрын
How do you get such smooth bars? Every time I try my trace is too thick and my soap is lumpy on the top
@petalsbathboutique8 жыл бұрын
+Nadi B A number of things could play a factor. You may be using a larger ratio of hard to soft oils in your recipe, you may be using oils that accelerate trace such as olive pomace, your fragrance oil may be contributing or you may just simply be mixing too long.

I notice in alot of soap making videos, people tend to remove their gloves once the mixture 'traces'. Isn't the mixture still very caustic... or no?
@petalsbathboutique9 жыл бұрын
Xochilt Martinez It is still caustic so it is important that you not get any on your skin. I use to remove my gloves because they were bulky rubber gloves and got in the way when I wanted to do intricate design techniques, but now I use medical exam gloves and no longer have that problem.

I made the soap but it curdled. It didn't work. It thickened when I put in the fragrances. Can you tell me why? :( Sad. What a waste.
@petalsbathboutique10 жыл бұрын
Did you use fragrance oil or essential oils? How thick was your trace? What temp were your soaping at? It may not be a waste just yet. As long as your measurements were correct, you can always rebatch.
@irenelinney297210 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the encouragement. You did write back. If I used fragrance instead of essential oils would that curdle the soap?
@petalsbathboutique10 жыл бұрын
Irene Linney Some fragrance oils, particularly florals, will do what is called "ricing" in your soap batter. Usually you can use your stick blender to smooth it back out. If you take a look at my video for "Fling": Making "Fling" Handmade Soap ~ Petals Bath Boutique you'll see an example of ricing and how I was still able to work with it.
@irenelinney297210 жыл бұрын
I watched your "fling" video.It was very good. But once again there was no mention of the amount of oil you used. I thought this was important. Or is it not important to measure the amount. I don't think we just through any amount into a bowl do we? Im still learning.
