^___^ Taiwan had the sunflower movement that push back Beijing's attempt in economic takeover 2014. The government on both side basically wanted to sign a free-trade agreement that would have enabled Beijing to have nearly free reign to invest into Taiwan... it was strong arm in congress that try to implement it without public debate and for some reason... wanted to have it signed without any delay. The large scale HUNDREDS of thousands protested immediately and movement grow to the point it froze trade pact attempt and Taiwan's voter ousted the government party 2008-2016 in the 2016 election. That president end up have less than 9% approval rate at the end of his term. Devils is in the detail... Things such as it would have grant citizenship to mainlander who invest and live in Taiwan for 4-6 years was revealed in the pack. What's more is that he/she will be able to 'add' his parents, children, etc into the citizenship plan too (not sure if the children will be immediately grant citizenship like the case for Canada) But in short ~ It would have enabled China to buy up Taiwan from within~ and we can now reflect it was what happened to Hong Kong too. Short term gain but Taiwan would have loss its uniqueness and sovereignty overtime.

I will continue to say this, IF YOU WANT PEACE, THEN PREPARE FOR WAR! it is simple, you have no control with your neighbors, they can be nice or bad, you cant choose them, or dictate what they can do or dont, that means what you can only control is your own military, preparation is important but not easy to do, you need military technologies, funds, etc, and building your military takes a lot of time and effort, but anytime other countries may attack in no time, you may be surprised or prepared, and its better to be prepared than be surprised, we should all learn from Ukraine, Russia suddenly attack them without warning, thats why preparation is very important.

Don't give them any ideas. Mainland Chinese are already buying up properties in the PH. which they are not even citizens of the country. Check those POGO owners.
@michaelwang61257 ай бұрын
Taiwan (and many other country) is already shifting their manufacturing out of mainland to Vietnam/Philippine- and back home. Its unlikely Beijing will be able to sustain a long term war since the cost to mainland China would be multiple times greater compare to Russia. e.g if a full blockade of Taiwan were to occur than all of Beijing's maritime trade will likely also face blockade and it'll face the similar situation of Russian's navel ship in the blacksea. In fact it would become a given that America may even use the opportunity to target nearly all of Beijing's prize ship and military sea ports during the first phrase of the conflict so it can send Beijing's naval power back by 5+ years. In short if Beijing does strike; it'll have to win and ironically the definition of "victory" is probably also a loss since cost will not merit the gain. The current Beijing's tactic is to try to do it from within and creating more problems globally to handicap the Western power. Russia ties up EU's Nato / Iran ties up Israel and maybe N.Korea will act up next while Beijing can claim it isn't directly involved shift blames to America. Beijing has funded many media even from within Taiwan - though it wasn't enough for them to win the presidential election but there are pro-Beijing politicians within congress.
