It’s from transitioning from summer to winter coat. These deer are raised in relatively insect free environments. Most farms have insect sprayers along the perimeter fencing and a lot have mist sprayers that will spray the deer as they head to a water source or feed. Insects damage antlers, so every precaution to be pest free is taken.

If you feed a wild deer all year round they will get huge antlers like that too, there are enough that feed the whitetails around where I live that there are some pretty big bucks with really big antlers. Fortunately (or unfortunately), they also usually live within and behind where a lot of houses are so people can't hunt them legally.

I agree with that statement. And from what history has taught me, if this continues the white tailed deer will suffer the same fate as the Irish elk, going extincted by our hands...
@calvinh.88826 жыл бұрын
@@czarsowell4861 , How? When these deer are not and have never been the wild deer that's all over the U.S. These deer have been produced, and have nothing to do with the regular deer population. And if they turned every one of the farmed deer lose into the wild, they wouldn't change anything besides producing some offspring before they were all hunted down and killed. None of these are created with drugs, they're all just bread back to deer with good genetics and then fed the best food possible in order to get their racks to grow. If they were turned out into the wild where they couldn't get the types of food they're getting now, then their antlers wouldn't grow as large.
@Rainkit6 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I don't think these can be called whitetails. These are all young whitetails with the antlers of a 6 year old red stag
@Rainkit6 жыл бұрын
+Calvin H. These deer would not survive in the wild. It would be better to call these domesticated. They have been selectively bred from nontypical bucks to have these massive antlers. Putting them in the wild would be like dropping a dairy cow in the black forest of Germany. They would have a hard time getting through the forest, would not be able to compete with normal males due to their twisted antlers, and would be easy prey for predators.

I’m so confused by this post
@jonpatterson72116 жыл бұрын
Hardtail, sorry for the confusion. That's my fault because I have a tendency to fast forward to the end. The end in this case is that a butt load of those deer will be sold to "hunting" preserves to be shot by people, I won't call them hunters, who for whatever reason take the easy road. You didn't hear any of that during the video, but that's exactly what happens. Keith Warren wants you to believe that it's all about the preservation of the whitetail deer. Bullshit. It's about money. Most state Fish and Game agencies do a fine job managing deer herds. Whitetail numbers are at an all time high across most of the U.S. Here in the Southeast, they are doing extremely well. My home state of North Carolina allows a hunter to take 6 per season. What does that tell you? I am an avid deer hunter, just in case anybody reading this gets the idea I have a problem with hunting. I don't. Another concern I have with deer farms is the spread of a disease called CWD, or Chronic Wasting Disease. Deer farmers deny the risk, some deny the disease outright. If you're interested, do some research and you'll see that the facts speak for themselves. At the end of the day, it's a personal choice for me. I wouldn't have anything to do with controlled preserve hunting, I would imagine that it's extremely expensive so it's a moot point anyway. Hope that helps clear up some of the confusion. Have a good day.

It's all about the dollars. This is why I will never hunt a high fence place. Its wrong on so many different levels. What happened to fair chase? The same guys that shoot these bucks in high fence areas are the same guys that will find a date a the chicken ranch in Las Vegas. Ever heard the expression "it's all in the chase"? My biggest buck scored 164 3/8 and there is a awesome 3 yr story that goes with him. With these deer, its like I paid $7500 to hang out at a place where they fed me, gave me a nice room, carried me to the stand and started calling out prices as the deer came by until I finally settled on a 180 that I invested a mere 30 minutes into killing him.. WOW! How proud can one be to know they shot a deer with a tag in its ear.... I'd rather go to the local sale barn and by a steer and let him go in my pasture and shoot him. Cheaper, more meat and would have about the same effect as killing a pinned buck. Thanks to all the media coverage, this is the future of trophy hunting. Just SAD.
