Never been so relieved to have a lighter discussion this time, compared to the heavier, more controversial topics shown a few analyses ago. Nishikata sure has been thinking (and worrying) a lot. I viewed his thoughts of being a stalker pretty seriously because as you mentioned, he might scare Takagi away with being inappropriate. Good thing Takagi sort of toned his mood down, and the tension up, with the idea of "having a crush on her" instead. We can be sure that Nishikata will never go too far to hurt Takagi just to win a game, because his conscience argues with his plans in real-time, every time. He has shown a lot of consideration towards her as well, while detrimental to his winning chance, it doesn't fail to make Takagi feel touched and happy. It's just hilariously sad that when Nishikata came prepared with prior information, he still doesn't pull off teases as well as Takagi does. Oh well, let's add "Takagi's sincerely happy face" to his list of weaknesses.

In the anime adaptation of “Steps” I find it interesting how Sumire-Chan is the reason why Nishikata knew that Takagi-San was going to show up, it makes me think that Sumire-Chan was helping her friend out by giving her time with Nishikata because it is shown that she has a general idea of how Takagi-San feels in “Valentine’s Day” when Takagi-San is talking about how she gave chocolate to her crush to Mano and even a little bit in “Vertical Text” the first story of the season. The ending of this story when she asks “Did something good happen?” might make you think she didn’t do it on purpose but I think she knows and was just messing around with her, after all she was blushing, that’s implied at least.

That little tradition started when I was "Analysing" the shows first season. I put analysis in quotes because all I really did was summarize the plot and point out differences between the anime and manga. I figured at the time that I might as well reference the chapter number in the script.

I think it is definitely not a stretch to think that he doesn't want to lose Takagi through his own actions - this is backed up by when he held off on giving her the Cotton jack in the box in Worries because she seemed upset. Also when he thought if he went too far when he drew her really bad during the art episode a while back. I think that's an underlying thing with Nishikata especially in the manga that makes it harder for him to win their contests

The part where takagi was shown teasingly feeds nishikata the cookies was actually adapted from the Title Page of the same “Souvenir Chapter” [Page 2]. So imo the manga didn’t actually end with takagi telling nishikata that he will try the cookies first.
