I don't blame you for being caught offguard by Takamura crying, but it just shows that he is in fact a good dude, albeit a (very) flawed one. One of my favourite episodes simply because of this Takamura moment

when in bear country you're supposed to make noise (bells) to let them know you're around. bears usually don't want any smoke (except polar bears who actively hunt humans, and maybe a very hungry grizzly), so the only thing you have to be worried about is accidentally sneaking up on and surprising a bear and scaring it into attacking. the noise doesn't repel the bears as much as just tell them you're around so they won't be surprised.

Bear meat is just gamey, no reason you couldn't eat it but it wont be a flavor you're used too. meat like this is good mixed with other stuff.. stew, chili, etc.

isn't most meat that's not farm raised gamey though? though I've also heard that it happens because with wild game you hunted, you can never clean the carcass fast enough and thoroughly enough to get rid of the smell unlike in a slaughterhouse.

The fat, specifically, is the gnarly thing about bear meat. It's greasy and tastes like crap. The meat itself, though, is pretty good. In most normal prep, you wanna cut it with pork unless you're just built different, like Nekota.

Fun fact. Takamura mamaru is based off of roberto hands of stone duran. And it was said that roberto duran knocked out a horse with his right cross. So they paid a slight homage by having takamura knock out a bear. 💯

Bear meat is edible, but very gamey, so you'd have to prepare it differently from conventional types of meat to make it palatable
