I'm still keeping my Gundog. I've never really liked Willis that much (even though I love all my other Fanstoys figures) and that floating head from the Takara one just kills it for me.

Yeah, Gundog has become my Hound in my MP collection, and I consider it an important piece because it decided the direction I wanted my MP collection to go in; prioritizing personal aesthetic preferences over 100% cartoon accuracy. Plus he's a jeep; I've never liked the toon colors on him, feels silly compared to the 2Y gundog.

I have & am keeping gundog also. He does everything well & doesn't deserve a swap. 2 be fair if he came out at the same time FT did I'm going FT. They were just late imo & takara is real late. Sometimes it pays to wait on FT sometimes not. Not waiting gave me gundog which rules but also gave tht damn xtb cyclonus which sucks next to FT. Now I'm looking 4 it on the 2nd market

I have Gundog too. Takara Hound nor Willis dont appeal to me that much. When the offical Hound was announced,I was ready to pre order. But after MP44 finally came out and the Hound reviews I watched,it scared me off. Price was a factor too. For 160 I feel the quality should be better. I wonder if Takara will release the dark green color scheme. Ugh,since one of my favorite reviewers got sent a mp36+ by one of his fans,I'm tempted to get it.

Gundog is fun to transform and satisfies me. Takara's is just too expensive to justify all the cons. I may pick it up if the price drops drastically and no one else does a toon accurate one.

Yup these 2 are pretty much a tie for me as well. I already own Willis so he's not getting swapped out for something that isn't an improvement. Especially at that price. I wish Takara would get back in the game. I haven't purchased or even been interested in anything they've done since MP Megatron. And it's not just because of the inflated price tags.

I like Optimus, and slightly like Bumblebee. Everything else, I see as not necessary. I still own Tracks, but everytime I see that figure it feels like a punch in the face. So yeah, I know Takara can do better than this. Megatron V2 is definitely amazing.

Whisper it, but with MMC Saltus and the tapes, as well as their Vortex, I think that MMC *might* have edged out Takara as the company to go to for the best and most intuitive transformations in Masterpiece. Great and very fair comparison Bobby - I've bought the Takara (he's just gonna stand there and look pretty) but the FT is going in my little desk of misfit toys, because I dont want to get rid of him - he will stand next to UT Blurr!

I have Mp Hound, do I like it....Yes! Do I love it....No! and Man is this super light, a child in the womb could toss this thing around. CONSIDER THIS, for the same price I paid for Mp Hound I've pre-order both Fanstoys Brawn and Warpath, in terms of price point that blows my mind!. My advice to Takara is, get rid of all the unnecessary accessories and focus on build quality and materials.....because honestly there losing me as a customer.

faintsmile88 amen brother. I’m lost already. MP 44 was it for me. Too much BS in the package and not enough figure. Weak paint on the most iconic figure in the franchise? Really? Bent antennas? Charging $330-$450 for bent antennas? Really TT? I’m good. I’ll keep buying FT. Not to mention those jokers at TT start the entire collection over with all this toon look? Nope not me. I’m good. I’ll keep the ones that have the adult collector look. Spend more money for figures I already have? They double dipping on the plus figures and still issuing new figures with all these issues. There’s a sucker born every day just not this guy. Official means nothing to me anymore. I’ll stick with FT, XTB and MMC to name a few.

@@mikeh6398 Ah yes the infamous Mp44, I have that figure and although it has grown on me....it was the first time I questioned if being an Mp collecter was actually worth it. That day I made the decision to Boycott TT unless I could not resource a 3rd party alternative....Only purchased Mp Hound for sentimental reasons and couldn't resource FT Wilis. Honestly 3rd party is the future for my collection.....nice 2 hear some of us are waking up and realiseing just how overated TT have become.

faintsmile88 I agree Prime is not a total loss. He has many qualities that I like. He’s painted although not the best, articulated which is cool and for the most part hits home as far as how he should look. Just the feel of the overall figure and plastic on top of inconsistent paint was a turn off. Not to mention the fear of his knee breaking which takes away from how articulated he is. Bent antenna? TE was $130 and they got it right. How does a 3rd party company out do you on the head for the most Iconic character which so happens to be the most expensive on top of that? Get rid of most of the accessories as I’m not a kid who is going to be playing with it anyway. Take that value and put it into better materials and QC. It was the first time I felt like I got burned on a new figure and thought why is this thing so much?

Very interesting. I couldn’t pick what seemed off about MP47’s alt mode before. Seeing it alongside Willis, however, the FT looks like a Jeep whereas the Takara looks more like a Mini Moke! Now I can’t unsee it.

6:17 I just got an authentic TT Hound and initially had that gap with the head due to the visor. After some fiddling, I was able to get the visor to sit more flush and it eliminated the gap. Now it looks perfect. So I think it just needs some finagling to get it to sit right.

Being someone that owned Willis in the past and now owns MP-47 Hound, I have to give it up to Takara hands down. The transformation for FT Willis was simpler but fuckin difficult due to clearance issues with the tires and terrible feet. To be fair I’m sure TT stole a lot from Fans Toys transformation sequence, but they made it more intuitive in my opinion. Plus Takara was able to include the shoulder cannon into the transformation in an interesting way. Not to mention MP Hounds car mode scales a lot better with the rest of the masterpiece cars (even though it should be a little bit tinier).

Take the "gimmicks" away (cause really that should have counted as "accessories") and that exposes what Takara new figures really are = way overpriced cheap shots of transformers! Willis is not leaving that shelf!

I usually lean towards FT over Takara, but I just prefer the aesthetics of the robot mode for MP Hound, and that's a really big factor for me. Interestingly enough, my Hound doesn't have the forehead gap. I totally agree though about the alt modes, and the feel of the materials.

What you said about the silver paint in the auto-mode that’s the way I see it too but all around. I don’t care for the light green paint. The silver painted the engine on the chest and thighs in robot-mode give it a realistic look. The feet look clean on the takara but it looks plain next to the fans toys. If both were combined it would be perfect. However, takara broke up the tires which don’t look good in auto-mode. You are right this will fall on subject choice because objectively they are very close. Thank you!

As someone who does not collect MP, if you put them both on a shelf and asked me which looked better,.honestly I'd say the Fanstoy one does. I get the accuracy of the Tamara one but the Fanstoy just looks good. The face and paint spoltchiness just don't look good to me on the Tamara.

I remember when I got MP Hound, I watched your review of him and followed the steps very carefully and having been forewarned by yourself concerning the crappy nature of those tailgate hinges, I applied caution, did it VERY slowly, and gently.... and STILL broke the bloody thing. There is a question at the end, if you just want to skip all this backstory. I just wanted to share my newfound love for Transformers. I’m a fan of Transformers ever since I was a kid in the 80s. I remember getting a couple of the original toys when they became collectible mid 90s. Soundwave, Shockwave, and my favorite Devastator. Anyway, I just started collecting a new G1 cartoon accurate set, as I recently (only over the past year) have seen that the figures have gotten to where they look like they just jumped out of the old cartoon. I never thought that would happen. The engineering that goes into these is magnificent. I wish I could have had these when I was a kid. I remember the old Ironhide (without a head) and compare it to the Takara version? No contest. LoL. It’s insane. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you, and everyone else in this community for putting out such fantastic content, and without it and everyone else who loves Transformers I wouldn’t have been reminded how much I love these things. So, my question is 2 part. One, did you build your G1 display yourself? With the Ark? Secondly, where (besides on this channel :-P) can I be kept up to date on new figures coming out? Is there a website? Is there a yearly thing for toys? (Kinda like E3 is to video games) Sorry if I sound like a noob, but thank you again for everything Skully and all of the Transformers fans.

I love my FansToys Willis, I'm not gonna swap him out. Having said that, he is LOOOONNNNNNGGGG overdue for a reissue. That is where Takara really wins, they'll keep re-releasing their toys as long as people keep buying them so for people looking to buy a Hound they'll be able to find Takara's offering at all of their favorite retailers. I know FansToys probably has limited production capacity, and I know FT fans like that the toys don't get reissued so appreciate in value, however FansToys is leaving money on the table by being stingy with reissues.

If TT is going to inflate prices they need to step up materials and better QC overall including the paint dept where FT’s destroys them all day and twice on sundays. Not spending on hound. I came in late on the Hound train, FT Willis was sold out when I came into the game. I watched reviews for Willis, read comments from users with QC issues, so I passed on a secondary market Willis. So I was excited when I heard about TT Hound, the prototype beta show photos impressed me. When he came up for pre-order on Amazon JP I ordered no questions asked. But around the time he became available I decided to go with DX9 Gabriel instead thanks to the jaw dropping sale at BBTS, no regrets there. So I decided to wait for TT Hound, but a few days ago I noticed Amazon JP offering TT Hound at 50% off, and it was just too good of deal to pass and wait for God only knows how long for a reissue of Hound, if it even is reissued, people are assuming it will be, but not many guarantees in life. When mine arrives, I am considering applying silicon lubricant before transformation, loosen the bitch up a bit, you know the magic of motion lotion.

For a second I thought Bobby's biases for Fans Toys was going to shine in this vs. video, but he kept it very fair . For me personally without a doubt Takara's version of Hound is superior. I originally bought the Fans Toys version a couple years back and for a while it got the job done...but that transformation sucked and I could never get it into Jeep mode cleanly. Not to mention its heavy weight made it difficult to pose. As soon as Takara announced MP-47 and I saw the pictures I immediately sold FT-15 with a sigh of relief lol. It was good riddance for me.

When you really think about it, I think making MP Hound “light” could’ve been a conscious decision on their part because they wanted MP-Hound to be pose-able. FT Willis looks nice, but I remember that figure to be extremely heavy and couldn’t pull off a lot poses other than your standards one arm shooting pose. Had MP Hound had die cast in it other than the feet, it would’ve leaned too much and collapse easier.

The Takara that plastic just worries me far to much to spend the money and if I had to get a Hound that for me would be fun because I like to transform my figures and he might not look as good but the Gundog I would have to say I'd probably be happiest with it is a very hard choice between those two I'd say the Fanstoy for quality and the Takara for overall looks but it's just worthless for me if I have to worry about breakage for that price range just not worth it, thanks for sharing your side of the argument !!! 🖖🤖

I think if you put a weighted score to each category, instead of counting each one for one, what you will find, is FT probably edges the TT offering out. Build quality and materials should count more IMO. Also, being a TT offering doesn’t count much these days, as 3P has surpassed TT in almost every area of their game.

I think it would really come down to what you find to be important for you they're both great figures I find he was just pointing out what you can consider when you make your choice. If your going to just put him on the shelf then Takara but if you like quality and to transform your figure then possible the Fanstoys would be one to consider without worry of breakage

Hate to say it, but I agree with a friend of mine, might wait for the KO on the Takara. I prefer it in a lot of ways, but even before seeing this review and seeing it break, I knew that thing was gonna be a nightmare in fragility from the first transformation I watched. Maybe a KO would be more durable, or if FT rereleases Hound at a good price I might just go with them anyways, just too pricey on the second hand market.

Willis looks pretty aged now, from that era when these companies were still making those "chugsterpieces". Some people think FansToys should reissue him, but if they were going to do that I think I'd rather they'd go back to the drawing board and make a Willis 2.0.

After several official MP's that have disappointed me, MP-47 is actually the _least_ disappointing MP in a while (a G1-MP, as the BW's seem to be home runs though not ones I really care about) though the lack of backward movement in the legs is a huge letdown. I'm also not sold on the anime-accurate look. It's engineering is impressive, I'll give it that. Though if I had to choose, I'd pick the Willis. I prefer it's more toy-accurate design and the color scheme. Even if it may be more of a hassle to transform, Willis, in my opinion, looks kinda better in both forms. It's at least a pretty solid display-piece. Maybe not the best articulated and the scale looks off (not an expert, but it looks HUGE compared to the Lambos) but I'd definitely take it if I could. Maybe if Takara did a toy-accurate repaint/slight retool of MP-47, like they did with MP-36, I might consider that.

It's funny when you put them side by side in the review I thought the takara was going to murder the Ft. But when it was up close looking at the parts I didn't prefer any of them. The fact that an old figure can tie with takara and feels better should worry them. If 3p goes away I don't know how I'd feel about mp collecting.

I like the look of the Takara one, but I've seen too many breakage issues for me to justify buying it since I'm one of the people who enjoy transforming them back and forth.

I've transformed mines about 8 times now, nothing has broken. The quality of the plastic is weaker, but also more flexible compared to usual MP figures, and I think it actually benefits the transformation because it allows you to clear certain parts easier. The engineering is genius tho and honestly one of the best alongside Sunstreaker. If you ever do decide to buy it, my advice is to not man handle it. Watch a couple of transformation videos and learn how parts are supposed to move, don't try to transform it just following the instructions lol.

Personally, still think FansToys wins (or Gundog for that matter). Mostly because neither of those two figures will collapse from just handling it. Takara’s Hound has a bunch of positives in the looks department but as Bobby said it’s a “paper mache tiger”. An’ I’d prefer my figures to not collapse after simply messing with it

interesting result, personally i'd count the gimmick as a negative, specially since to have it the way they wanted it, ruined the entire head design. its the kind of thing that could have easily have been just an attachment, like with Tracks missiles that end up being tiny tiny missiles just so it can be included in the alt-mode. i dont like those kind of sacrifices

Robert Ban yes that gap is unsightly and if it was the FT release with that Gap all the Takara people would be burning willis at the stakes over it. They chose an unnecessary gimmick over accuracy and a completed look. This shows they are out of touch. More crap and gimmicks doesn’t translate to better necessarily and didn’t in this case. Here’s your toon look hound oh never mind that gap between his face and head that’s normal. Lol
