Beast Wars was for lack of a better term pure 90's. I love it for being one section of the franchise that saved Transformers from just being a fad of the 80's like so many other shows with toy lines back then.

Hes almost a perfect likeness for the animation at the time. I'm very happy with him. I think textured fur would have taken away from it. This is kinda how I remember it on the show.

In the ape mode, their was actually a joint in the waist you could bend back to bring his legs more forward for a hunched over pose. But other than that, great review! Also, it's so nice to see that Takara has finally realized that fans who grew up on Beast Wars exist and that they would want masterpiece versions of the characters from the show. I am one of those people so I will definitely be picking this guy up because he looks fantastic!

I just shipped my pile of loot and got him yesterday. I absolutely love this figure In fact he's in my top three best for 2016. This is the most screen accurate version of this character and I couldn't be happier. The transformation is not overly complicated yet fun and satisfying. When I first saw BEAST WARS as a teenager I too hated it. However I went back,and watched it as an adult and fully understanding the story and how it fits into,the overall cannon I absolutely love it. I really hope they do an MP Megatron from Beast WARS. That would really make my day.

It was great to watch an unbiased of the figure. The figure was way over priced considering the size. I love the paint and accessorizes but I think a $100 would be a much better asking price considering the beast mode isn't that great. But I loved the show and this well probably be the only Beast Wars MP I pick up at full price. If they do a BW Megatron that would be awesome, nothing better than a transforming T-Rex!

I think it’s also a matter of the expected sales numbers. The average cost is higher because the fanbase is more niche. It’s a niche inside a nichce. But for those of us who tell _Munky Not Trukk!_ $120 seems totally doable. But I would never pay that for the other figures you compared it to... other than Optimus, who costs way more.

I know you mentioned about not caring about the series but really would it be too hard for you to check the manual or just watch a different reviewer that has already done a transformation on this already? The whole review felt like you were ape-ing your way through the transformation and made it look like the toy had a bad transformation process when every other reviewer had quite the smoother experience.

lanoche what's up ianroche? you've been around long enough to know I don't watch other people reviews because I like my opinion to be my own man. There are a number of things that didn't move completely smoothly on this piece and I still stated it had a good transformation that's fairly straightforward with classic masterpiece moments. Yeah but reviewing the manual would have been helpful or just checking out the transformation part. It just really irks me every time I see you kinda struggle with transforming something especially one with a manual like a Takara MP that should usually be smooth in transforming because they do try to make it not as complicated as the 3p ones nowadays. Other than that I do watch you for your opinions because you're one of my litmus test to see what goes on my want list since I know you will shit on a lot of stuff that needs to be shat on.

Just from the looks of how mp-bumblebee is priced at TRU(and prowl and blue streak in the past) , I have slight doubts we will get mp Optimus primal cheaper in the US. I'm probably going to wait until ages3andup Boxing Day sale to get him like I did with unite warriors devastator. I know he isn't going to sell out quickly (like all masterpiece toys lately and my learning experience with mp laserwave and hot rodimus) like the takara transformers legends and adventure stuff has been this past year. But of course he's amazing and anyone who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves.

Great review as always Sir. I have to agree they should definitely lower the price although it cleans up nicer than any other beast bot I've handled. Now I understand why you wouldn't like the show but let me say this. When it first aired I hated it. The sub par animation sucked and it was such a departure from the original series it bothered me so much that I couldn't watch it. But about ten years ago l got the idea in my head to collect and watch every iteration of Transformers possible. So again I started watching Beast Wars and this time it just clicked. Around the end of Season one I started to enjoy it. The writing is probably the best for a Transformers show and the characters start to make sense such as Waspinator acting as the Starscream character to this Megatron. And then you have the shows connection to G1 transformers. I won't spoil it in case you watch it but Beast Wars ties everything up in a nice little bow. Anyway I think you should watch the show all the way through and see if you don't just like it. As always thanks for all your hard work and keep it up.

Looks the business in bot mode but I'm not paying $120 for a none high end toy that has no licensing costs. I'm struggling with the MP line, Laserwave, the Nissan vans, Ramjet and Rodimus ALL had QC issues for me - coupled with high price points. I'm not even sold on MP Megatron.

I totally agree, I think the proportions on MP Megs look absolutely horrendous, and the paneling looks pretty bad as well. From what I've seen both the DX-9 version and the Make Toys release look like a way better option. I personally went for the Make Toys release, but they're both great figures.

Beast Wars cartoon is a mixed bag. Took me three tries to get through the first episode, one percocet later I was through 3 discs :) I do like when it eventually mixes in with the G1 story. What I didn't know going in, and I don't think it's a spoiler but helpful to know... Optimus Primal and Megatron, aren't Optimus Prime and Megatron that we know. Totally different characters, but Optimus Prime and the original Megatron do exist in their continuity.

100% agree... I'm glad you focused on the price point issue... That issue seems to have been overlooked by many of the other reviewers out there. I'm personally not a huge Beasts Wars fan, but my G/f was so I swooped it up. At $120 for this guy, my biggest concern is actually what that means for Cheetor, at $80.00 how small is that figure going to be? If it turns out to be the same size as MP Bumble Bee I'll probably just stop collecting the Beast Wars MP line all together.

Hey Bobby, don't you think a better price comparison for Primal would have been Shockwave since both utilize timed electronics? If Shockwave is $160 (double an MP car), I think Primal is fine for $120. I don't agree with everyone comparing his price to carbots when he's bigger, has electronics, and more ratcheting joints, paint, and accessories than most, if not all of them.

I can only assume that buying a toy in Japan is like buying a car here in America. There is a list price that is like "sticker price" but most websites offer it much lower. Maybe it's set up strictly as a sales tactic. After conversion this guy was about $86 from AmiAmi and the like. Everything else is shipping, which can be cheap if you are willing to wait, and US retailer mark up. Considering his domestic (to the Takara market) pricing, I think it's fairly priced. The rest is that cost of doing foreign bid'niss. Oh, the proportions are correct :) Good review for a Beast Wars racist.

I think 2 years ago this would have run about 10 dollars or more less. Plus the yen is back up too. Add in "xxtoyshop.com gotta get their 30 percent", carry the one, etc, etc. I saw a few people offer it for around 115 or so. That was shipped. I'd say that's a fair lazy American price. it would make an interesting question to ask someone in that industry for sure. like inferno and grapple are around 110 I THINK from Japan. They come with a lot of shit too. So did Ironhide though and he was the same size IRC but he was like this dudes price. Maybe they want to get that preorder money before January 20th. Got that pre WW3 money.

Its beast wars so meh, I just can't see the appeal, but I'm an angry old man and its great for those who want this line. What I do like is they seem to be on the upswing QC wise which gives me hope for the G1 stuff I do want. Its a hefty price tag, tho the crown goes to the UK release of MP bumblebee at £79.99, which at pre-brexit rates was $120! Even today its $96 and change. Official MP being more expensive than 3P is a worry, or an indication of just how big 3P is these days. Great review as per man.

Yeah the thing i remember is that the Maximals are descendants of the Autobots and Prime is way bigger than Primal so yeah 30ft VS 9 seems about right in the cartoon but just doesn't translate well in Masterpiece unless you put Primal next to a KO.
