Peaugh you are the only reviewer that still has Citizen Stacks. YOU MUST DO MP-22 VS. CITIZEN STACKS. YOU MUST YOU MUST! This would be the toy review version of Ali VS. Fraiser. This is the first time Takara and a 3rd party have created the same figure, with the same price point, in the same scale. What I think people are mad about with the MP-22 butt flap is a 3rd party did it better WITHOUT A BUTT FLAP and had more articulation. Looking back at your stacks review. CITIZEN STACKS looks like a modern update on the original Ultra Magnus TOY. MP-22 looks like a toy version of the G1 cartoon. I love the cab and trailer both making a figure. I HATED how the original toy was just a re-hashed repaint of prime with some add on parts. That didn't impress me as a kid and it wouldn't impress me now. THANK YOU TAKARA AND KFC for doing it like the cartoon and making this a completely different transforming figure.

but you got to think in MP designer perspective man. MP is meant to design a toy that resembles the original toy of the G1 and at the same time when its on robot mode in the show. Not just that they have to scale it as well. To compare them i find it unfair since Citizen Stacks doesnt look anything like the G1 toy or even how it look in the show. Thats the advantage of it and thats the reason why Citizen Stacks have better articulation compare to MP-22. U just have to remember back why Takara produce MP line if they are gonna give it a modern look or doesnt have to abide by the rules to get it accurate as close as it can get to G1 Toy and the original show MP designer can beat any 3rd party figure anytime...

MP-22 Ultra Magnus is an amazing MP. Being a Ultra Magnus fan, this version without a doubt is the Magnus Opus! I have CW Ultra Magnus, Titanium & G1. I also have MP Optimus Prime & they look fantastic side by side. The quality of the figure, plastics, joints, transformations. MP 22 is definitely my favourite. He is very well Proportioned & very true to the G1 look. I do wish that it had more deco and movement in the shoulders, but it's nothing that the retro label stickers & upgrades can't fix. Highly recommend him.

My plan, had I the money, was to get this and Dai Stack so they could be considered different characters. Probably never actually get to do that, but y'know, a collector can dream. If I'm lucky I'll get a Magnus whenever Hasbro gets around to release it.

I cannot wait for Magnus to arrive (possibly today). He looks amazing. I also just preordered the reissue of TT MP10, since I don't yet own one. I do have YOTH Optimus, but MP10 has always been at the top of my wish list. I'm still amazed at how tall all three are. Along with Star Saber arriving this March, I'm going to have to get creative in fitting them all within my collection. I'm already looking forward it : )

Nope. That is an official release. I was shocked when I saw that it was a all in one release. Glad they are going away with that concept. However, the new Combiner wars figure may get repainted. Also Star Saber is bigger than this guy.

bigfornoreason1 Umm, they did it this way because that is how Ultra Magnus looked in the show. He was never a white Prime in armor in the show. That is how the toy was designed but not the animation model. I believe the first time he appeared like that was in the Dreamwave comics.

And frankly I like this Magnus over if he had merely been a white redeco of prime w/ armor (like the G1 toy).... don't get me wrong, I for the G1 toy growing up, but frankl we have been inundated with white prime repaits since time immemorial... and I would had absolute ZERO interest in YET ANOTHER PRIME repaint. I'm glad this is the "show" version, this is precisely what I wanted out of a MP Ultra Magnus, and I'm not the only one. He looks great next to my show-accurate color TRU MP-10 Prime.

Ps soooo cool that i want one but...... butflap my thoughts : if they made that cab hinge a double and did something withe the seats it could have fit on the back :-s..... visible leg syndrome : somehow i think that if they took care to make the side skirts fold up on the back they could have made a flap that covers the top leg parts and extend the red cargo bed , then either fold onto the feet and hide behind the white flaps or rotate and collapse on the back of the leg......hand / ramp syndrome : they just copied the g1 toy :-s withe a bit more investment i think they could have made a workaround so when tilted the rap fits the bed snugly and not having the step up we have now and we had then. This is what mp figures are supposed to fix :-s also missing the white flaps that are on the g1 toy. They are molded but not painted :-( for the rest cooooool figure

I get the impression that moving the shoulders is going to pop out the side panels that secure the arms to the body. I see that you reinforce that with your other hand every time you articulate that joint. Is that intentional?

Thanks for the review. I wasn't sure to get this one or Citizen Stack. I just ordered MP22, because like you sad has that Magnus feel. 2 thinks you forget to do in truck mode: flip up the wast plate towards the front of the shoulders and the blue panels on the inside of this elbows, there is a gab right now in truck mode. Perhaps you can show this in an extra video?

Something I discovered just now and I see you haven't done in your review - the blue middle point on the upper platform of the carrier trailer (the one that stores the gun) has a fold up panel - when you view the carrier from the top you can press on a little tab to help push the panel down - this helps fill up the hole.

You can also flip his crotch flap in carrier mode to make the 'floor' bit longer (you'll see what I mean when you do it).

I ended up getting Stack manily because of the price difference, and I like how resembles the IDW Magnus. Yeah, he's too big in robot mode, but I think he'll look better with Cloud Rodimus. I think they did a great job with MP-22, and I think the transformation is ingenious. If they ever end up updating/redoing MP Rodimus (because he sucks), I'd end up getting this guy. Peaugh, would you be willing to do a Stack vs. MP-22 comparison video? I'm pretty sure a lot of people want to see it, including myself!!!!

I looks like a lot of big pieces secured only by thin or tiny amounts of plastic. That shoulder hinge especially. frankly I'm worried of that just one day getting over stressed and suddenl Magnus is down one arm. And I'd be down $200...

The human figures are to scale with the truck. Trucks are very large. It's the MP trucks that are too small to scale with everything else. The MP cars in general are way too big in comparison with the trucks. The problem occurred when they decided to greatly de-size the truck from MP-01 Prime to MP-10 Prime (they couldn't get the mass shifting right - MP-01 was too tall in robot mode). That human figure head that comes with MP bumblebee is enormous.

I have to admit to being slightly disappointed that they didn't retain the white prime figure, or make it possible for the previous white prime repaint to merge with the trailer. I get why they didn't, but it would still have been nice. Makes me less confident that a master piece power master prime / ginrai would feature a detachable prime cab robot

I don't mind the buttflap at all and would be fine if ongoing art of him added it even. Actually kind of suits him as an added piece of armour. My only real beef with Magnus as a Masterpiece is his trailer has always been ridiculous. Compared to other G1 figures he is kinda fine and is pretty badass, but compared to how much more realistic the MP vehicles tend to be his trailer tends to stand out. Really silly nitpick though and easily solved by always displaying in robot mode.

Great thorough review as always. I finally decided to open mine up and he's o's pretty awesome. I was disappointed that on a masterpiece figure they did not take the time to clean up the spru marks, but that is a minor nitpick. The posability does not matter that much to me as I don't remember him getting into any crazy posing on the G1 animation. One thing kind of bugs me, if is not an issue, just something I noticed. On the inside of the shoulder joint where it would normally not be seen, on mine at least, it is painted red. It is an odd place for a paint application, any ideas why it might have been painted. Both sides are painted, so I don't see it being an accident.

Honestly... I don't even know how any sane human being that has watched the G1 show can even say Shitizen Stack is a better figure than MP-22, Magnus, sure you could prefer it but that's about it, really! Apart from the slightly slender appearance of Stack which some might argue make him look more toon accurate..at the cost of him losing the functionality of being a 4 car carrier and him being more pose able than MP-22, he is outclassed in every single way by MP-22, it's not even a joke. Calling it a one-horse race in favour of MP-22 would be the understatement of the century, really! Hell, I even retract my earlier statement, MP-22 is just a better figure, period! Comparing MP-22 to stack is like comparing a Bentley made in 2015 to a ford fiesta made in 1970. The Bentley is just a better car, it's not a case of preference, it just is. Just as MP-22 is better than Stack!

This guy looks good, but I think that CW Ultra Magnus is a better figure. The way the cab transforms on this figure would be great, if not for that "buttflap"-CW Magnus' cab is very simple and effective when transforming, leaving just a fairly small backpack, and no other kibble hanging down.

He's always been called Citizen Stacks as far as I know and is listed that way if you order it. MP-22 is the overall better design and I agree with the cab wheels being recessed isn't as good but as everyone who has reviewed it will say you don't notice it until you really look at it. But Takara SHOULD be able to beat a 3rd party on EVERY point including quality, design, and articulation. MP-22 doesn't have as much articulation and Stacks doesn't have a but flap. You mention that when you put the two together that you can see the difference etc...That's the point. None of the reviewers have done that "Put the two together and done a point by point comparo." I know I'd go with MP-22 but I'd like to see where one lacks and the other gains.

BBTS seems to be pretty early at putting up preorders for pending Masterpieces. Get on their email list. I know I would like to see the G1 season 1 and 2 cars keep rolling, as well as some offical conehead MP's. I know people begrudge all the MP Autobots, but I don't mind.... most of the stuffh as been G1 season 1 and 2 stuff; and we must face it, in S1 and S2 the Decepticons were vastly outnumbered. I'm hoping for a Jazz next, a Sunstreaker, Hound, Trailbreaker/Hoise, Ironhide/Ratchet and Mirage would be nice.

There have been several Transformers over the years with these kind of Buttflaps, Beast Wars Depthcharge comes to mind, to me it makes it look more armour like so I quite like them.

I see yours has the same ugly "sprue marks" on the forearms as mine. Having this guy in hand, I have to admit I'm maybe a little disappointed. He's not as bad as Rodimus- and nowhere near as fubar as Megatron, but there are a couple of points where I feel a little cheated. Buttflap aside, a lot of the big panels don't feel as solid as I'd like them to be and the whole figure seems to be reliant on small tabs that don't always cooperate. I'm not particularly happy with all the space around the lower legs or with the lack of waist swivel. BUT, In the long run these are all minor complaints; MP Magnus is a great figure and a very nice representation of the character. It's just that personally, I would have preferred an update of the original G1 toy- a white MP10 with a few minor remolds and a trailer that became armour. an MP City Commander, basically.

***** Mine also has a few tiny dinks in the red part of the shoulders; not sure it it's from transformation but they're quite uniform. I've also noticed a really bad sprue mark in the red plastic under Magnus' chin- right at the end of the track where his head slides along. Very minor imperfections and you *could* I suppose argue that they tie into the "old solder" aspect- he'd have dinks and scratches from a long career, but it's the kind of thing I'd expect on the Hasbro version rather than Takara's. Talking of which, is Hasbro bringing out their own version? Maybe with a lighter blue to match the G1 toy.

It's a shame Rodimus was never given a chance by fans at the time (and that he transformed into a.. winnebego). Maybe if Sunbow had built up Hot Rod in season 2 first instead of him just taking over in the film. I always found it funny that Decepticon fans embraced [Mad] Galvatron over Megatron, but Autobot fans could never let go.

JuggyBohab Yeah there is that. You look at characters like Lion-O and the 'reluctant leader' bit was quite popular in the 80's. The sad part was that just as they showed him accepting the role and finding his own groove, The Return of Optimus Prime happened, and ruined the tail end of the series.
