I wonder if she was living in America when she was in elementary/ middle school or was it during her highschool years. What's interesting to me is that she considers herself Japanese, which is perfectly fine and in her right but considering the history between the Okinawans and Japanese... Okinawa was an independent country, but were invaded in the 1600s and have been treated poorly by the Japanese even up to this day. They became a part of Japan in 1975 after that long period. They have a lot of struggles akin to native peoples in other places. I also wonder if she speaks the Okinawan language as well as Japanese and English
