@@EchidnaClub Hi, I have this sewing machine and is quite happy with it at the moment as I only use it for sewing light materials. Unfortunately, I think I broke it because the presser foot would not stay up after pullling the lever. It looks like whatever it is inside that locks the presser foot in place everytime I pull the lever is not working and the presser foot goes down everytime I release the lever. Is there a chance I could fix this issue or is it time to buy a new one. Thank you,

You could take it to a technician and see if they are able to fix it. It is a basic machine and it may cost more than its worth to fix. It depends on how old the machine is and what you are using it for.

A great video that answered nearly all my questions and gave me a couple of suggestions too like make sure I get a machine that has a top loading bobbin. I am looking for a machine that I will be able to use to sew my handweaving with so I have been advised to get one that has a fairly high lifting foot also one that can have a walking foot used on it so can the Brother JA1400 use this foot, I must admit I have never heard of a walking foot before !

Out of curiosity, if i bought a specific needle for denim, would it be okay to sew denim with this machine (more then just just hemming, i want to create an item using denim material)? @amber.s Yes you can sew denim on your machine, you just will find your machine won't cope with really thick seams and you may need to hand turn your hand wheel to help it to get through it.

@katrinatriolo4654 It will depend on the project that you are doing as to what type and what size needle. For cottons/linen, for example, you more than likely will use a 80/12 universal needle. @jeevankl735 Here is a brief explaination for you: Sew two rows of basting stitches across the top of the strip, about ¼” apart. (Note: We recommend sewing two rows so you'll have a backup if one of the threads break!) Keep your bobbin thread long. Pull the bobbin threads to ruffle the fabric, making the ruffles as tight or as loose as you want them. It is a very basic machine so if you are intending long term we would recommend something a bit stronger. Not sure of what machines are available in your country to be able to recommend a particular one.

This is a basic mechanical machine and while it is capable of mending denim occasionally it is not what we would recommend if you were doing denim regularly. In that case we would suggest looking at an electronic machine like an A16 or A150.

@NongezeleloMbali It snaps onto the foot holder. You will need to line up the bar with the foot holder, lower the foot holder with the lever and it should snap on. If it does not immediately snap on, press the button on the back to the foot holder.

I bought this model two days ago and have been watching this video over and over again but I can't seem to get my sewing started. I seem to have done everything right - threaded the bobbin, threaded the needle correctly, pulled up the bobbin thread, moved both threads to the back, set the sample fabric, tried to start the actual sewing. It began with a loud noise of the threads knotting up and somehow the needle lost its thread. I started all over again following your video closely. Same thing happened. Three times! Please help :(

Are you in Australia? If you are, please give us a call on 1800 000 360. Please check you have your bobbin in the right way and make sure your machine is threaded correctly as this is usually what causes these issues.

Yes you can - due to the thickness you will need to use a denim needle 90/14 (maybe bigger if it is really heavy denim) and go slow. A walking foot also helps go over thick seams.

No it does not do overlocking. You can purchase a overlock foot to do a zigzag edge which mimicks an overlocking stitch.
