I used to run a 25 watt Galaxy Saturn with a Texas Star 667V. I loved the radio but they were quirky back then. I did a lot of mods to it to improve the receive and AM TX audio. I like the idea of this radio going from 12 thru 10 meters. When i had just my Tech license I was limited to 10m voice. It was nice to have a 11 meter station too to fill in the gap. Ham radios are great on 11m for SSB but they dont have good AM audio.

I'm currently looking at several different radios but I've never owned any that have SMT. From what little I heard of the AM receive on that radio seemed to have a fairly low noise floor. I no longer own a Cobra 2K but I've had a few and I must say their receive when working properly definitely spoiled me. Almost no white noise at all. I can say the same about the old DAK 9's and 10's as well. One of the main reasons I didn't like some of the first SMT radios when they first came out years ago was because their receive to me was horrible. Sounded more like being in FM mode on AM. I hope that these manufacturers are finally getting these radios refined to the point that the recieve section is quieter. Thanks Rooster for this video and anyone else feel free to chime in with their own opinions or experiences.

Does this model also come with the 11 meter chip upgrade in the box?

is there a way to lock this unit in 11 meters, have a vision impaired friend that has this unit and everytime he turns it off, it reverts back to 10 meters when turned back on. i would like to be able to lock it for him so he's in 11 meters all the time.

@@Rooster_Radio purchased from a local radio shop, it has the new solid state board, all components are soldered on top of the board and not through soldered.

@@Haxsaw67 I'm aware of the radio lol. I've probably sold two dozen of them. But that's the issue. If the shop deals directly with Ranger, ranger will send it to them. Otherwise ship it off to superior for warranty

I just can’t imagine why you’d buy something like this. You can buy a nice HF rig for the same money or just there abouts.

I agree but I've heard several HF rigs that sound horrible on AM in the 11 meter band. I think some rigs are intentionally built that way so you won't attempt using them for a CB transceiver. Correct me if I'm missing it somewhere.
@randyk8919 Жыл бұрын
@@PhoenixRising251 Sure. I admit 11m AM is not a consideration for me. No local activity at all. Shit... you can buy a yaesu 710 or 7300 from icom for 50 bucks more than this ranger. Any of those make this look like a toy in almost every respect... except AM performance ( don't have any reason to doubt roosters opinion here)

@@randyk8919 What I find hard to believe is how pricey radios like used RCI's are going for: just nuts when you can buy a 7300 for just a tad bit more. Makes perfect sense.
