Some people are dreaming of a crazy life in LA or Dubai. I’m dreaming of a nice cottage house in the English countryside. Canterbury, Cotswolds, Towcester, Buckingham… Cities like Oxford, Birmingham, Wolverhampton*, Nottingham*, and Liverpool* are amazing!!! I have friends and family over there* and when I was visited them… ohhh😍🥳🤩 What a place Britain is… I love it (and the weather too!) from North to South it’s beautiful!

Nasons closure was not a surprise to me but still very sad . UK high streets are just going down . Love Canterbury and would love to live there but can't afford to , health care worker and the rents are way above my means . Beautiful city and I catch a train in when I can . My local high street is named as one of the 10 worst in the UK 😶 And it's true . Think we are actually in the bottom 5 🤔

Excellent video! We were lucky, as American tourists, to take a full day trip from London with the “London Walks” group to visit there several years ago. The guide organized our train tickets, walked with us into the city and cathedral and we had time for our own exploration as well. Your video showed the great variety of historical architecture and the lively atmosphere of an active city, which is not just a tourist site. Inside the Cathedral, we were invited to view a 30 minute ceremony that was led by the current Archbishop of Canterbury, Rowan Williams. Listening to his beautiful booming voice inside the Cathedral was an unexpected treat! Canterbury, like Winchester, Salisbury, Durham and York, are well worth the visit! Thanks again for your great videos - so helpful to visitors!

I was born and bred in Canterbury , now I live in Spain I was showing my Students this video to show them where I am from . Pity you didn't visit in May/June to show of the west gate gardens in full bloom and when the river is clear from rain wash and looks crystal clear . I must say I am now home sick after watching this . I would also say that Canterbury is changing and becoming busier and the traffic is horrendous most days . Canterbury also has 2 train stations and a extensive bus station that you can use to visit most places in the region . Restaurants galore and many pubs bars and is most defiantly very trendy place to go . With links to Whitstable on the coast it is a very good base to sight see the region. I could talk all day about my Home of Canterbury , I feel very fortunate to of spent 40 years of my life there and although my body is not there my heart certainly remains imbedded in and woven into the beautiful City . I miss you

@@MemorySeekers £745,000?! The listing I saw was £950,000. It must have been reduced. I live in a home built in the 1880s, which is considered ancient by Canadian standards. Very Nice whistle-stop tour in my area nice to see you here, Canterbury is great, when having lunch at Weavers my friend was complaining about a fly in her wine i threw it into the water and below a punt guide shouted can you put it in a glass next time please. I had worked at St Augustine's for English Heritage many years ago, walking in the grounds around the ruins litter picking and making sure it was still safe before opening in the morning was the part I liked best so very quite yet in the middle of the usual crowded city.

As always I enjoyed your trip “off the beaten path” which is my own favorite way to see a new area, village, town or city. Getting away from the obvious places that most tourists choose to visit in order to get a sense of what life was like in the past and what it continues to be like in a given place plus avoiding a rush to move on to another area/building which allows for more time to carefully look at and experience what a particular place has to offer are wonderful benefits of getting off the beaten path. One thing that I appreciate about you Brits is that you appreciate your heritage and generally aren’t in a hurry to tear down anything that’s over 50 years old. I live in the western US and this is a serious problem we have here. How can we learn about our history if there are no reminders of how our ancestors lived? Question1: On this and some other videos of yours I’ve noticed iron S shaped decorations on several old buildings. Is there any special significance to these Ss, or are they merely decorative? Question 2: Was St. Augustine’s Monastery directly attached to Canterbury Cathedral in terms of the monks worshipping there and also caring for the pilgrims and for the cathedral itself before the Dissolution of the Monasteries, or was there another order of monks who worshipped and led the services at the cathedral? FYI the crooked house reminds me more of Mr. Crook’s house/shop in “Bleak House” than it does of “David Copperfield”. (I apologize for such a long and rambling post. The video brought up a lot of thoughts and questions.)

Hi for your question 1. The S's and sometimes crosses are used to fix bowing walls, where the weight of the building causes the wall to bend outwards. Screws are placed in through the wall and into the floor supports, with a plate on the outside (in a fetching S or cross shape) to hold the wall in. 2. There were a number of orders of Monks around the Cathedral I am afraid I do not know if it was Augustine's. The monastery is outside the city walls. You can see it position if you google map on Canterbury. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed it.
