I feel like it's not stressed enough, how hard it is to find an apprenticeship after you're done. Everywhere, they ask for at least 2 years of apprenticeship experience, and no one wants to sponsor a new apprentice. No on mentions about how a journeyperson is only allowed to take on 1 apprentice at a time either (a pretty dumb 1:1 ratio if you ask me, if you take into consideration the growing age of the average electrician and how long it takes to get an apprentice to be trained into a journeyperson)

As a former Instructor for Elevated Work Platforms, I noticed the boys on the Sky Jack didn't have the chain secured on the back of the lift. I would recommend to the College that they stress safety as well. I've see enough injuries due to lack of safety.

I'm considering an electrician program. How is this school different compared to BCIT (I am from British Columbia). Also, how's the pay?

It looks fun enough here but I have a friend who is an Electrician and his body is shot from the job. Pulling many kilometers of wire, struggling with conduit bends, and the thousands of other aspects of the job takes it's toll on you. Trades people I know have taken other jobs for a bit less money and a lot easier life. Imagine $32 an hour as a Millwright and then you switch to being a Real Estate Agent for equivalent. Even with a lesser income, the work is not physically hard. It doesn't destroy your body. If you make a mistake, your life is not on the line. If you work for a bad company, unorganized and unsupportive, then the simplest jobs can become nightmares. The job also has two main divisions. You can go heavy in construction or maintenance. On the plus side, when the economy is good, you can stop overloading yourself and stimulate your employer into hiring more Electricians. I'm not saying this to discourage people from the trades. I am saying this so that these new people will think about the future and make it to retirement intact physically. Good luck to you new blood.

Probably the worst thing about skilled trades is once the project is complete and you step into your new home, Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons start telling you sex is forbidden unless you're married with that group and gays and lesbians are forbidden to sleeping over in your construction project.

+Luc Charles Of course, many of these students have zero electrical knowledge whatsoever, you build what they tell you and then you get critiqued and corrected. I started with zero knowledge and came out just fine :P
