I shoot all my pictures using a Kelvin WB. Although as an underwater photographer needing to use flash, this is usually set to what looks best with the flashes I am using (usually 4700 or 4800K with my main flashes). I like my shots to look great as possible as I shoot them - as I find that inspires and motivates me to push on for something special. And having the WB spot on is part of that.

Andy, when it comes to post processing, you said that you do not do things like removing imperfections. (The image of the lion cub and mother) What is your opinion on selective color adjustments? Are you into that? Personally as a nature enthusiast, I have the same view on not removing im0erfections to keep the liveliness and reality of the image. Struggling to decide on whether to do or avoid selective exposure adjustment, masked color overlays like stuff. Like to know your opinion and where you draw the line when it comes to post processing.
@andyparkinsonphotography
@andyparkinsonphotography 19 күн бұрын
@chathuradsilva When it comes to post-processing/colour adjustments then my objective is always authenticity. I want the finished image to look as accurate as possible. I have no issue with selective lightening/darkening as this has always been possible. I see the RAW file as exactly that, something that needs to be optimised authentically.

Loved this video and glad to hear another photographer suggesting manually setting WB by Kelvin. An additional benefit of doing this is to simply allow for mass WB editing in post. I learned this from a wedding photographer. Since they like us wildlife photographers are blasting away at high FPS often, it's much easier to manually set your Kelvin and then say these 50 photos are all a bit cooler or warmer than I'd like. Since they are all at 5560k I can make 1 mass adjustment to them all to a cooler or warmer kelvin and move on in the editing/culling process.

Dear Andy, Congratulations on starting your KZbin channel! Your immense experience and iconic work with National Geographic and the BBC make your tutorials an invaluable gift to the photography community. Would you believe that I just discovered your channel and finished off all 6 videos in a binge watching session. It’s rare for professionals of your caliber to share knowledge so openly, and your generosity stands out in a field where many hold back or charge a steep fee. I hope to see more videos, perhaps in longer formats, as your insights are an incredible treasure trove. I am hooked on, have subscribed and excited to learn from you on this journey! Best regards, Venkatesh

Beautiful work. I was glad to see that some photos were not at F4. I love to shoot early in the morning, but do struggle sometimes with light. There is no expensive prime in my future. It would be great to see content on how to work with more common zoom lenses with 6.3 or 7.1 beginning apertures.
@andyparkinsonphotography

I do quite a lot of work with narrower apertures like that, as you can see from my image details, so yes, a great many more videos to produce! 😬😊
