Hi, Iopine: Regarding ring lamps, I use one that fits my camera lens. It came with a variarty of lens sizes ie for different types of camera. Once on a sturdy tripod, it can beam towards the canvas or bounce off the ceiling etc.

What would be the best options for photographing art work in a small studio?
@VeryPrivateGallery
@VeryPrivateGallery Жыл бұрын
First, check all the cameras you have and see what are the sensor sizes and lens. Choose the best existing camera you have with wider lens with larger aperture(f/2.8, for example. Because you don’t have a lot of distance to work with, you might need to use a wide angle. Set your camera to the best resolution, even raw format if that’s an option. Then you will need to put as much light as possible at daylight. I guess the main problem you will encounter is the distance to the work. Then the lighting situation comes secondary.

... the issue with the strip lighting is that under certain conditions it can have a flickering/strobe effect ... it would require some kind of electrical patch ... in some people it can cause seizures ...

I have a piece that is “kinetic” using the shadows of the medium on the canvas. Curious to see if it can translate into print. The idea in photographing for prints is usually to eliminate shadows. Suggestions?✌️
@VeryPrivateGallery
@VeryPrivateGallery 4 жыл бұрын
Nautical Fine Art Design You can create shadows, and make different shapes of shadows for different prints. Prints are not made to be the same as originals, so don’t worry if they don’t look the same :)

What a fast reply 🌠 Is there any light available in less cost to shoot in the night time also?(with tube light in room) Because I'm an art teacher, I've started this channel recently, I'll be able to take the videos only in the evening time after returning from my work place n also currently I couldn't afford costly products.

Mo, the first thing I want to do to get better exposure is make IG posts up to 3-5 a day, a minimum of 2. I grew 100 followers in 1 month by commenting sincere, interesting comments. I am going to keep this going. Right now I am working on a painting that will take about 2-3 weeks to finish, but will be worth several thousand. I see it mostly like a perfect painting to sell limited edition prints, so I am looking into that. Also you spoke to me about a charity auction, i have so many cheap to not worth anything at all (from my vantage point now) that would be great to sell for $20-$30 and make money for a charity. I want the big diva light, and I made a few sales for after Christmas so I will probably get one. Do you have any advice if a $700 total dslr kit plus diva light would be ideal, like the diva light is my guaranteed i will buy one item, but i wonder if starting a YT channel if a dslr is essential. This would be the month I could do it, but not totally easy money wise. And I am always looking for new ways to advertise for free, so any tips there would be a blessing. As always thanks for the video, and I do have a light box but way too big for my small studio/bedroom. I love my studio but once I have the box set up I start hating its size. I wonder if I can set it up out of the way as a cross angle lighting for any benefit. Also do all led lights work like white lights? I am using just the bulb of one of the boxes for clear sight with an led light, but I get the roasted turkey feeling, my eyes end up being the reason I have to go to sleep. Take care, and enjoy the holiday season, moving into the coolest numbered year this century 2020! -Dave

Thanks for sharing your journey! Commenting and connecting with others on Insta and other social media is a great way to get noticed (and make some friends along the way). Keep doing that! Regarding to your softbox, have you tried mounting it on your ceiling? Do you have a dry wall ceiling or cement? It's fairly easy for cement ceiling to hold a softbox. You just need a long power cord to reach the nearby wall socket. This way you can take advantage of the equipment you already have.

@@VeryPrivateGallery Coll idea but I have a drywall ceiling. I'm really cramped in my studio, so its a bit of an issue too. I had the box removed from one and just use the stand with the bulb, but it can be too much warmth and blast of light. But I have one fully un-packaged light box but yeah seriously no room for it, at least to help me in any way with painting. talk soon

@@artistoddessy8484 I think the best prosumer digital camera under 700 would be the Canon M50 with kit lens. I have Canon myself so I would opt for another Canon just to use my existing lens. If you don't have a brand preference, it's worth checking out the Sony A series.

So how do you set these lights up to get professional art reproduction results? If you are just listing 'Types of Lighting' without justifying why they are ideal for photographing artworks then you can just list any strange light source: A match. A candle. A glow worm. The light reflected from the sun by the moon perhaps?
@VeryPrivateGallery
@VeryPrivateGallery 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I use those lights myself when I take photos and make videos. My primary usage for the lights is to make videos - that’s why I mainly talk about continuous lighting. Consumer grade video lights tend to be cheaper too. They might not be the most professional photo studio lighting, but they’re enough to make photo/video for social media and website. When you apply it, it really depends on your space: do you have white walls to reflect any lighting? How big is your space? What is your focal length? What’s the sharpest aperture for your particular lens? Everyone has a different kind of space, camera and works, therefore needs different solutions.

Very helpful, thanks. I want to photograph some large canvas paintings (A1 size) to make prints to sell, however I also want to start making youtube videos (for art and also beauty)... would the ring light be the best option to do both things? as I can't afford to spend too much right now! I will be taking the photos and videos using my Sony A6000 mirrorless camera
@VeryPrivateGallery
@VeryPrivateGallery 4 жыл бұрын
Aliecee 👋 Sony A6000 takes good quality images. You can use the window light, if you are in a sunny place. You just need to invest in a pair of good white curtains. If you need artificial lighting on a tight budget, the umbrella lights have the best bang for the buck.
@VeryPrivateGallery
@VeryPrivateGallery 4 жыл бұрын
Aliecee I find the ring lights tend to be more expensive when it’s large and bright. Especially because it is Leds, so you can’t really replace the bulbs.

Do I understand correctly that I need two rings set at an angle of 45 to the painting? the technology is the same as with umbrella? I live in place, where not many sunny days

You can use a “beauty ring” that has 3 steps (warm, neutral, cold). The one I bought for 20€ is like this. I could see in China it is sold for 4€ including local shipping.

This video is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot! I'm trying to set up to film acrylic paintings but the light reflections are giving me headaches. When using direct light from the lamp, it whites out the paint surface. Would Diva rings solve my problem? (limited to the small space, I could only afford the small ones)
@VeryPrivateGallery

Unfortunately strong diva rings might still give you a reflection. I would recommend you to use a lamp to project onto your white walls (if you have white walls). What camera do you use?

@@VeryPrivateGallery Wow Thx for answer!! I recorded the first 5 videos with my android phone S10+. I'm not satisfied with the result so I'm thinking of getting a camera within affordable price range. Do you have any recommendation? Lowest price with best quality...???
@VeryPrivateGallery
@VeryPrivateGallery 4 жыл бұрын
cindy lee If your camera has good noisy reduction, you can put up to 400 ISO and some lights bouncing off the wall. The bouncing off will reduce the reflection but also reduce the strength of the light. That’s why higher ISO, but you don’t want too high so it becomes ‘noisy”.
