The realness - you missing bigger canvases, plain clothes, life-adjustments to accommodate everything, this was such an inspiring "normal person doing great things" kinda video! And sublime painting! 🎉

Thank you so much ❤️ At the end of the day we are all normal people doing great things, right? It just takes a while for some of us (perhaps all of us?) to figure out how to make things as us-friendly as possible ☺️❤️

Jackie you nailed it! At first I was worried when you came in with so much white, but you intuitively made it work little by little. I plove watching your videos and appreciate immensely how real you are. I don’t know your whole story but I do know how much you care for others. I signed up for the workshop on June 14, 2024 and I can hardly wait! I’ve never done a workshop before. I’m 67 and am an artist just starting and have waited to burst out. I get so excited when I look at and think about art! I want to do abstract / collage. The bigger the better. The more used up,, tossed away abpnd worn out the better. I want to tell a story.

I have several unfinished, but unloved art works that would really benefit from this treatment. You’ve inspired me to dig them out. During your process, I thought a number of times, ‘right, it’s there now, leave it’. But you kept going, and you were right to, I love the finished piece. It was the thick black that made me nervous, but you pulled it back beautifully with the thin black & white lines. 👏🏼👏🏼

I'm so glad you feel encouraged. I recommend starting on a painting that you really, really don't like - it really reduces the risk when you don't like it as-is. Haha! You can do it! ❤️❤️❤️

Beautiful, Jackie. I just found you last week and am happy I did. I really appreciate you just being you and not trying to dress up "cute" for the video. - Right now I am struggling with a number of unfinished paintings small and some larger. I have seen a few of your videos and admire how you just push through. There is a big lesson for me to take to my heart. Thank you so much for sharing your work and it's very beautiful work. I'm looking forward to seeing more of you and your work.

Hi Kristiina! Thank you so much! ❤️❤️❤️ I know the feeling of having lots of unfinished paintings but putting it off for one reason or another. It’s not the easiest feeling. I’d encourage you to choose the in progress painting you like the least (or the one that you’d be okay losing) and take some bold action with paint. You may be surprised how good it feels to just go for it AND perhaps even how quickly one or two bold changes can complete a stalled painting. ❤️❤️❤️

Great comfort in knowing that you, too, fearlessly paint over a work that doesn't resonate with you; I do it often. Frankly, some of my best loved pieces emerge from those so-so starts. By the way, I like and will use your baby wipes technique. Genius! Cheers. Blaze
@jackieschomburgart2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Blaze! It took me a while to be brave enough to do it, but there's a point when it's just not worth keeping the "kind of good" canvas vs. trying again and having the chance to make something really great. It's almost easier now to paint over something than to start from a blank canvas. The richness of the layers helps make magic :)

Hey Jackie ... another great video with good advice. I've never done this but will give it a try. I like the idea of creating "windows" that show the layers below in smaller bits. Hope your show went well.

Wrote an extensive paragraph about watching the process, and with one mistaken keystroke -bang it was gone - arggghhh. So in summary loved the rework. Working with black and white is truly daring especially over a piece that you like (but don't love). You really pulled it off! Thanks.

My own style is more how it started on yours-more unstructured. I also love blues, so I liked the original one. The re-paint is a nice structured geometric work too though. I am brand new to painting (15 months) so am afraid to mess up anything which I think is going good-but i also freeze and won't work on it at all. it's an awful feeling really...I am really really enamored of Cecily Brown's work, Flora Yukyonovich, and Krista Harris (Krista is amazing and is SO good I can't believe her work is not selling in the millions like Cecily's and Flora's.) Keep up the good work!

Love how it turned out Jackie -- a definite yay for your courage & really interesting that you ended up turning the painting other end up and it totally rocks in that direction ❤ For what it's worth (& if you're under the gun again) you could totally mount your sketchbook pages onto cradled board (if you don't already) -- & just have to say how cool it is that your kids get to see Mom doing abstract painting (as though that's a totally legitimate thing to be doing :) -- you're giving them unspoken opportunities to develop whatever kind of world they want to live in.
@jackieschomburgart2 жыл бұрын
Oh thank you, Lori! (It’s you, right? 😆) I hope you’re right about the kids learning that art (or whatever their interest is) is something they can pursue. We do LOTS of drawing and coloring around here. There are kid markers in every nook and cranny of our house! I truly believe that everyone has creativity within them - sometimes people forget about it though. I want my kids to remember their creativity. 🥰
