Superb tutorial thank you. Ive loved this tune since I first heard it when I was about 5 years old! Since then Ive playe keyboards drums (thanks to Dave Brubeck) and guitars, mandolins. Strating to get arthritis in my hands so guitar playing is pretty much over for me SO.......I have bought an Alto and intend to learn this now!

Wonderful lesson thank you! This is my first song to try on sax. But any clue how to smooth jump from D to C at A/phrase 2 will be appreciated. If the answer is only "practice more" , that will be welcomed with pleasure. Regards.

I guess discovered it :) holding right hand fingers on the keys (D fingering) while switching to C fingering works well.

Hello Jamie - Section A (phase 3) could i use the normal C key instead of Palm key+B. What is the significance i feel both sounds the same?

Whatever works for you is cool!

Thank you Jamie, wonderful video as always. I notice that you use one of the alternative fingerings for Bb; do you find that easier than using A, plus the side key, or does it depend on the piece?
@GetYourSaxTogether5 жыл бұрын
Paul R - I don’t consider the button bis key Bb an alternative - I use it virtually every time. Very rarely will I use the side Bb. I don’t think I know any top sax players who routinely use the side Bb so it’s worth starting to switch ASAP in my humble opinion! Side Bb is typically taught by clarinet players as there’s no bis key on clarinet. Glad you’re enjoying the content and thanks for your support.

@@GetYourSaxTogether Thank you for that advice Jamie; I am glad I asked. I will start to use that key from now on. Luckily I haven't been playing that long. Thanks for the reply.

What are you doing with the F# to G in the first riff? Are you bending the F#?
@GetYourSaxTogether2 жыл бұрын
I’m bending up from F# to G. Or more correctly up FROM a flat G to G.

This is great, however I do have one question. What do the asterisks next to some of the notes mean?
@GetYourSaxTogether2 жыл бұрын
* = second octave ** = third octave. :-)

Hi Jamie have a question.. in the first phase which starts with G C Eb F.. comes the F# G F# F Eb.. from this part i clearly hear the last 3.. all together i hear 4 notes instead of 5 notes.. which means i an missing one note.. even at 0,5 speed you only hear 4 notes.. are you slurring F# to G.. ? Maybe a silly question but i am banging my head on the door here.. frustration through the roof.. sax stuck in the ceiling.. just kidding but your help would greatly be appreciated! Thank in advance!

Very useful for the phrasing marks for the tune, which is in the original key. However, as mentioned the phrasing of the first part is not how Paul Desmond phrased it and it seems slightly out of context.
@GetYourSaxTogether4 жыл бұрын
Hi Rick, thanks for your comment, and I appreciate your attention to detail. Yeh, I guess I slightly overcooked the phrasing there. Glad you're keeping me accountable! lol J:-)

First section sounds different from you than the recording. You bend up but Paul does a clean turn around by fingering the notes
@GetYourSaxTogether4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. I'll try and do it better next time I guess! ;-) It's good that you know how to play it exactly like him, it shows you're listening very carefully. That's what it's all about. Can you record yourself playing it? I love hearing other people play stuff! Thanks for watching and let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. J:-)

I think the first few notes in the A section were wrong, it was kinda clunky.
