You wouldn’t believe how right you are. A few years back I took a job as a security manager and the company was a nightmare, run by degree level managers at almost every level. Roll on a few years and it’s a great place to work, for everyone. It takes years to demonstrate what you’re about in a negative environment but if that behaviour is good and consistent, good people will walk with you, even the managers.

@@InimitaPaul Thank you, here’s more intel, I retired as a career firefighter/Arson Invest. Before moving onto Homeland Security as an liaison. As my grandfather told me when I was a kid- the only way you succeed in anything is by giving it as much as you can. My grandfather is 98, served in Pattons 3rd Army, survived the battle of the bulge, AND kicked covid 3 weeks ago. There are always excuses, they just can't be made. Thank you for your service and even more your podcast.

@@beerinoculum he would appreciate hearing that. Not many of the younger generation will have that kind of respect, sadly. I always visit as many veterans at his retirement home and the local VA that I can. I never served due to not being able to pass a physical, but I always wanted to show respect and compassion for those who have. Cheers.

Tell your grandfather that I appreciate what he did in WWII, my dad served too. Thank him for his service from Mrs. Anne Welch. When my dad passed away in '77, they weren't thanking service men and women. God bless him and your family.

@@grandcatsmama3421 thank you, I will be sure to. Even though your father may not be here, he is still a hero. That war was something else from what my grandfather told me. He ended up at Omaha Beach in 44 as a PFC at the time and was assigned as a grave registrar. He was responsible for picking up all the bodies of our soldiers and preparing them for burial. He told me things he saw that I couldn't even imagine. It really took a man to get through that war, my gratitude goes out for all veterans from then and now. Cheers.

I love Dr Peterson's message and was thrilled to attend his dialogue with Sam Harris in 2018. But I have to say since starting listening to Jocko's podcasts and watching David Goggins interviews etc I've stopped making excuses and started back into sorting my diet, fitness and reading. The two styles of JBP spelling out what needs to be done and Jocko and Goggins not accepting excuses has worked for me.

I love the initiative talk I believe a lot of jobs or managers now or people in general try and train us now to not have this that all to think initiative is a bad thing. At my job I’m always trying to stay busy when it’s slow and I’m still new (not the point) but I’ve been just filling the time with tasks that I thought would help us become maybe ahead of schedule or ready before the next rush comes in but if I was never taught or have seen things done right .. and then get told I need to stand and wait around for my next order. I just believe this is teaching the younger generation to be lazy and not have that drive. Don’t you want to push to be your best ? I’m not trying to put us behind schedule I’m not actually doing anything wrong at all and I know there’s nothing else I should be doing so why do I need to stand here to wait for you to tell me to start folding boxes, instead of just starting. Is it a power thing ? As a kid my mom would give us a chore list and while we finished our like 5 chores for that day she said “always keep looking for something else to do until I come give you your next task” and that’s always stuck with me. I think people are teaching/training weak mindsets in the work environment and in some schools that way you don’t pass them up. I am glad I saw this video when I did to remind myself that taking INITIATIVE isn’t a bad thing in fact it’s rare and being a leader is something many won’t come by. Love your videos they always seem to reach me when I need some backup on my thoughts !! Keep doing you Jocko !:)

I love what you are doing for people keep it up a lot of people and leaders need to hear this. Have a better squad of people that take ownership and that have integrity is very important. A mission statement should always be base on character the build from there because they have a reason to do what you tell them. It has to be their reason for doing. I call it your magnetic north with out that a compass doesn't work. Your why is what point you in the right direction.
