This is incredible. This reminds me of a time only in March last year, when I was on the practice expedition for my Silver DofE award. It was only the practice, except it was just as difficult as the real thing and three days gets to you when you're as unathletic as me and my friends. It was on the evening of the second day when we had been out walking all day, the weather had been pretty miserable on day one and all the first night, so we were all tired and covered in mud and we had been walking up and down hills all day (we had been sent out in the northern end of the Cotswolds, and those hills get steep) It was around 6pm, we ached all over and we were borderline delirious. We stopped on top of a hill still a good ways from camp for a break next to a straw bale, on which we perched a phone as a camera to take a group photo. During this break, I played the original country roads. We were all singing along, watching the sunset and having what I now describe as the best day of my life so far. The sheer amount of emotion packed in to this song for me cannot be expressed in words, but the word 'epic' is taken to new heights with this version and the feeling I associate it with. This is how epic the original felt atop that hill, watching the sunset with my friends after a long day. I still remember the pain in my feet as I walked down the old cobbled track back to camp in the fading twilight on that day. For anyone considering DofE or any similar endeavour, go for it. It will be the best thing you ever do and I cannot express that enough. This song is epic, this version is epic, and nothing is more epic than the memories this song has given me. If anyone read this and made it this far, thank you.
