October 12, 1997. It was my husband's birthday and we were taking a walk along Seaclif beach in the afternoon. We saw this experimental plane flying over the Monterey Bay and it flew over Santa Cruz, capitola, and Seaclif before heading back to Monterey. We saw that plane go down and said a prayer for the unfortunate pilot. Later that evening we learned it was John Denver. We both cried that night. He was our favorite singer and we had seen him several times in concert. My husband is now in heaven and I hope he has had the privilege of meeting John Denver!

WOW-there must be more than one John Denver doppleganger then. We had a spot John Denver here in Charleston-only he was a doctor. People came up to him all the time and asked for his autograph. They were completely confused when he signed it Dr so and so. Today I actually met Robert Plant-his doppleganger version.

I went to school with John and years later we ran into each other and reminisced about old times. His dad and my dad were friends and because of him, I also got my pilot's license. I was off from work the day he died. A friend of mine called me to tell me, and I wept for over a week. Went to the memorial service and I couldn't stop crying. I felt bad for his family and his children. I hope they are all doing well today. I think of my friend often, I miss him. 😢

Thank you for sharing your connection with us all, he was such a beautiful soul and the kind of man this world really needs right now. So I'm 54 and just moved to the beautiful mountains in North Wales, its an area I've known since a child and have many memories of times spent with my late father. I discovered John's music about 20yrs ago, the attraction isn't solely melodic but his love for the world as well as the wonderful vistas of Colorado inspire me. I hadn't listened to his music for a few years until recently and watching this film again as reminded me of how wonderful a man he was, your blessed to have such memories my friend. I wonder how humbled he'd feel if he knew even in 2024 he has the power to move me to tears. Maybe he already knows... 🙏

All the movies and documentaries skip over a part of John's life. John and Annie lived in the same apartment building as my family while their home was being built in the eastern Aspen foothills around 1972-73. It looks like the building has condos now. I went on a walk with them one evening and helped them carry their groceries up to their third-floor apartment. He gave my mother a signed album. They were so nice. FAR OUT!!!

I'm only 3 yrs. away from being 80. In my 20's and 30's, I was a country - pop singer on the road with my husband and a couple other men. That was back in the early 70's. We were playing a gig in Billings Montana. John was playing at another local nightclub. My biggest regret was we never got to go see his show because we were playing at another nightclub the same hours. What a wonderful life God gave to me. I miss the stage so much but my heart lives those years through the new artists. Can't think of anything more satisfying than making love to the audiences through music.

John Denver had the gift of song within his soul, a God-given talent. But it was 'Take Me Home, Country Roads' that brought that talent out full force. I am a native West Virginian and this song is now our 4th OFFICIAL state song. It still brings a gasp to my throat when I hear the opening strains.- 'Almost Heaven, West Virginia....' John brought us wholesome light-hearted country soft rock genre... his songs touch our souls and for that he was a great songwriter and singer. Grew up with his harmonious melodies and easy to sing-a-long...although i could not hold a tune but my soul rejoices and felt at peace...through his struggles he transformed those into uplifting, joyful, melodies which remained classics after all these decades. was fortunate to attend a few of his concerts and those will remain in my memory whenever i hear his songs. On earth you sang with humans, in heaven you sing with angels...thank you John for bringing a spark of life into our lives

He was impressed with the down to earth friendliness of his wife but John at that time seemed out of touch with others quit like this movie depicts. Getting in touch with others seems takes an inspiration from our Creator. Johns songs shared that often hopefully he found more of that close personal love like with his dad with Jesus and his family. My brothers are gone and John but memories linger. He also put cabinets in Willie Nelsons home but Willie took time to smoke one with Dave. Great stories.

What an amazing but tortured soul. My heart ached watching this movie to see how he needed so much validation from everyone because he'd never felt good enough for his father. He was always that little boy seeking daddy's approval. Then, His father dying just when he was making peace and healing that huge hole in his heart just about killed me. So glad he was able to reconcile with his dad before he died. Kind man. He was a little self centered in a married relationship. Im happy Annie had boundaries and didn't totally lose herself in him. I knew a man here in Canada, named Mr. Buttes, an eye doctor, he looked exactly like John Denver, he could have done him perfectly. All he needed was a guitar.

I remember when he died like it was yesterday. I was so shocked when I heard the news. I Love his songs. Great Singer and man. I wonder if him and Annie would have gotten back together if he hadn't have died. I am sure they still loved each other.

Part 2 is my own personal comment regarding my brother and my love for him as a teen in our dysfunctional family John Denver's music was soothing to our soul. Brings me to his song of the lyrics "you filled up my senses"to me represents the fact that John Denver was able to fill up the senses of others home listen to his music and lyrics because they resonated deep down into their being. That is some of us get goosebumps when I listen to his music. My brother got to meet him backstage and it was a one of the highlights of his life and he's gone now flying with JD no doubt in my mind and that gives me solice. We have all been gifted because he was a sensitive deep soul and really understood the depth of emotions. His gifts of sharing his remarkable talents through his lyrics and guitar has left a profound mark on the world forevermore. John Denver is so missed by those whom appreciated him but more than likely he is flying high like an eagle now, God rest soul.

I was 14 years old when John started becoming well-known as a talent. His style of guitar playing and lyrics were influential in my interests in music and musicianship. I learned to play guitar and sing using much of his catalog of recordings. I'm sure there are countless other individuals who progressed and evolved likewise. My musical talent is an important aspect of my personality and persona. Thank you John. The angels are fortune and grateful to have you accompanying them. Annie, thank you for your contributions and interactions to John's life. And my utmost regards for any anguish, pain, and suffering you endured in that role. I hope you have no regrets. I hope you received a greater life because of it.

I grew up in the ‘70s listening to John and singing all of his songs. He was the only celebrity that I ever cared to see in concert and I was fortunate enough to have met him in person twice. He still is my very favorite singer/songwriter. His music continued to get better and better as he continued to write and record up until his death. I truly miss him.

This was a heartbreaking story. What he needed all along was God. All the women, kids, money, fame, self-help gurus, even helping starving children across the world… nothing in life compares to our Creator. John’s life could have been more stable and fulfilled with those he loved had he acknowledged and accepted that One thing. I grew up with his beautiful music, and listen to it to this day. Wonderful memories. RIP, gentle sir. You truly made a difference in our lives.

John clearly took Annie from her path and life and when she wanted to create a family he put her SECOND. Never put your wife and partner second.

I feel just the same you do. Very sad, and with the Jesus movement going in his early days, I'm sure John had heard the Gospel from someone.

Please keep religion and stories out of it. If he was religious, that wouldn't have changed his life other than maybe made it worse for being brainwashed.

I totally agree with you. He was so close to meeting the Lord it is difficult to say what prevented it. Pray for his wife and children.

Yeah, this film sure was a tear jerker reviving old emotions. John Denver records were very meaningful to me growing up as a lost and lonely teenager in the mid-70's. I'm 64 now. Still the same deep down. I was fortunate to be able to go to his concert at the Cow Palace San Francisco in 1978. I used to almost wear out his records and whenever I put them on again now I am emotionally transported back to those fragile days of youth. Thanks for the memories, and terrific far out songs, John! Oh, and by the way, I think Kristin Davis was adorable in this film.
