Hi everyone, this is Mike's fiance taking over. At the moment, Mike is fighting for his life against cancer that he has in his brain. In November 2019, Mike had a seizure and things have been up and down for us since then, now is one of our lowest moments, but we keep our fighting spirit up. If you'd like to contribute to help, please check this GoFundMe page I set up for him ( bit.ly/2zj3Obx ) or please help to share the words. Any forms of love and support really mean a lot to us. Mike has been sharing his wonderful journeys and knowledge to us through this youtube channel, his website, FB group, and IG. He's even still dedicated to updating job vacancies on his FB group and answering questions from new pilots and writing useful blog posts during chemo. He's very pleased when we read to him how he's dedication has been getting more and more good response on the internet. Take care and tell your loved ones that you love them as much as you can :) --Citra (Michael Goullee's Fiance)

Glad to see the Pilatus Porter still flying. They were used in Bush Alaska before some villages had dirt strips. At my village they landed with wheels on the frozen lake and when there was snow they used skis, that was early to mid 1960s.

Nice video, Mike. This doesn´t look like a typical Yahukimo Regency airstrip, though. Pretty much a Lowlands region airstrip, rather. I've got this feeling since I first look at an Obio airstrip photo you´ve posted back in September.

Yup, it is more of a lowlands strip, just at the foot hills of the mountains

Wow! During takeoff, what was the SHORT runway distance you covered before you rotated? Didnt look like you had to go far!

To be honest I am not really sure the distance it was. But it can be super short when I am empty. The numbers are pretty accurate, like Paddy said

Nice work Mike. How do find the performance of the Porter in the hot & humid conditions? Are the performance numbers lower than published in the POH?
@PaddyPilot5 жыл бұрын
I know for me they are pretty much in point maybe even better with the sloped runways 👍
@FlyhighwithMike5 жыл бұрын
It handles pretty well, but the numbers are pretty accurate. It is a very capable machine. When empty I can get airborne in 50m or slightly less

@FlyhighwithMike5 жыл бұрын
Howsit, we have Cessna C208B, Pilatus PC6, Let410 and Avanti. Normally you need a minimum of 250TT to be considered for an interview. The cost of a flight depends on distance, but to this runway it would be about Rp300,000 (30 USD) each way. the flight is 18 min.

Is there a reason why you do all your turns by the right on ground, where it is so much easier to do them by the left on the Porter ?
@FlyhighwithMike4 жыл бұрын
It makes it easier to judge the clearance of my left wingtip when turning to the right. My right wheel just pivots on itself so I generally know that side will be fine.
