The is prologue. Its a timed loop to establish the starting grid order. I reckon it was to shave a few 10th's of a sec of his time.

They either run 3 speed boxes that have such long gears that the shifts are rare or 6 speed boxes that have gears so close together that the revs hardly change between shifts. Either way, you'll likely barely notice shifts.
