Instead of grieving I watched and listened to a lot of audio and video of Chuck Mosley's Reintroduce Yourself tour. This led me to cobble together a video for our cover of Faith No More's, Take This Bottle. I didn't know what I was doing and I only had so much footage to work with, but I enjoy it and you should too...Please share.
Event: RECORD STORE DAY 2019
Release Date: 4/13/2019
Format: 7" Vinyl
Label: blocGLOBAL
Quantity: 1000
Release type: RSD Exclusive Release
After three decades working in music, Chuck Mosley (Faith No More, Bad Brains, Indoria, Primitive Race) decided to pursue a solo project with a raw, psychedelic, acoustic direction. Armed with his guitar, a vocal effects processor, and a few friends (Cris Morgan, Randy Pirosko, and Douglas Esper), he embarked on a two year tour and completed a few recording sessions. During a six-hour block in August of 2017 with producer Joe Haze, Chuck recorded two covers, “Nothing Compares 2 U,” originally written by Prince (and originally made famous by Sinead O’Connor), and “Take this Bottle” by Faith No More (a FNM cut recorded during Mike Patton’s reign). The two recordings have never been released until now.
This ended up as Chuck’s last time recording in a studio before his death on November 9th 2017. His guitar solo on Nothing Compares 2 U never got completed as the band had to leave for a show that night in Salt Lake City.

Wow! This truly illustrates the differences between Moseley and Patton... Patton is not given to being overly emotive with his singing... it almost sounds like he's "kidding" or being sarcastic in almost everything he sings. This works well for him and is one of the reasons we love him... he contrasts that with a pure, near-perfect instrument. It's intriguing. Mosely, on the other hand, has this broken, kinda fucked up voice, but there is beauty in its imperfections (what the Japanese call Wabi Sabi) and there is such sincerity in everything he sings... he emotes beautifully on his tune. Love the full circle this creates too (Mosely-Patton-Mosely). RIP Chuck, you beautiful soul!

Mike Patton is my favorite singer of all time but... man what you said here is spot on. "it almost sounds like he's "kidding" or being sarcastic in almost everything he sings" This is exactly how I feel as well about his singing. Even though I love it, it's missing a lot in terms of painting or conveying emotions.

Chuck Mosley was a true gent as well as being a fantastic musician. His death was unbearably sad; I choose to remember him as he was on his last tour - vulnerable and fragile and hesitant as he started his set, and finished owning it and our happy crowd at the Boston in North London. And delighted to talk to his fans after his set - a genuinely good guy. We love you Chuck, wherever you may be.

We gotta thank you for saving this footage Doug! It sure isn't easy coming off tour and trying to sort through all the footage and pics taken and trying to find a purpose for it before the old familiar computer crash comes a 'callin. I am sure Chuck found ways daily to make "capturing the moments" even more difficult, but we all still love him, and it's obvious you did as well. I gotta cry every time I see this for someone I never even met, and I just finished reading the book. It hits even harder. On whatever type of level it was on, we are all lucky that we got to "know" Chuck.

Keep us posted on what you have going on. I saved a few podcasts on Amazon music with you that I am looking forward to checking out. The book was a great read. Instead of "we went on tour and everything was great" the much more interesting story is "Things rarely were perfect and nothing happened that we didn't have to MAKE happen." That side is far more interesting to me.

Lost a lot of talented men and women to drugs and alcohol. Peace and love to those who are fighting addiction now and in the past. Shit is hard to fight, but you are all stronger than that monster.

douglas esper those first two albums aren’t really something you’d hear nowadays with rock being kind of homogenized. There’s a lack of creativity, but there are some really good and interesting bands. Patton has moved on from FNM and does his own thing now with various other bands (Fantômas, Captain Midnight, and Mr. Bungle). I just wish we could get some more weirdness in rock music again.
